Chapter Three
Clinton's POV
Mom and I just bumped into each other, and she gave me a bad look. I had no intention of speaking because I knew if I started, her mouth would never stop again. It was very difficult to clear up issues with her.
I turned to Lauretta. She approached me and sat down next to the chair I was sitting in.
"I think Mom and you were having a conversation?" She said.
"Yes! But that was a long time ago."
"Okay."
"Why are you looking unhappy?" She asked.
"Darling, it seems your mom didn't like me?" Lauretta said, leaning on my shoulder.
"Oh no, why would you say such a thing? She really loves you. You just need to behave yourself, that's all. You know this is the first time meeting her, I'm sure with time you will get to know each other better." Well, she is right. None of my family members like her, neither do I. I thought to myself, looking at her frowning.
"What do you think I can do to make her like me? Because all I really want is for me to be her best and her favorite daughter-in-law."
"Just follow and obey her instructions," I said.
"Her instructions? How?"
"Just do as I said, okay," I snapped.
"Just go to sleep, you're just tired. Tomorrow we'll continue with our discussion," I said and stood up.
"You seem to be avoiding my questions, Clinton. Why?"
The next morning.
Lauretta
Mrs. Desmond looked at the clock and shouted!
"Hey, you witch. How long will you be sleeping? I want you to stand up and get us something to eat."
I looked at the clock. I noticed that the hands were not moving. "Okay, Mom," I said, annoyed.
"What?" She asked in annoyance.
"Nothing Mom. Good morn……." She cut in.
"What's good about the morning? Your mates were already awake, you are here sleeping like a boss lady, which you are not." She laughed, treating me like a mutt.
"Get lost! You useless and worthless scum."
"Mom. I'm very sorry if I hurt you in any way."
She stared at me, giving me a death glare.
What the heck! Where and when did everything go wrong?
"Enough of your pleading. I wasn't in for this. I'm hungry. Be smart and prepare something nice for me," she said.
"What do you want to eat?" I asked and moved closer to her. She looked at me furiously. Why was she treating me like this?
"Maybe you should ask yourself. There's no food in this house. So think and get us food," she said proudly.
"But Mom! I'm just trying to help here."
"Hey, keep your dirty mouth shut. Who are you helping?" she asked. "However, do you think you can help me?" I stared at her for her questions.
"Yes Mom, I can help," I replied.
"Oh yes. You are right. You can help me by leaving my Son alone. You are not welcome in this family. My child can't marry you," she said. My eyes widened. I was shocked.
I was shocked. Not knowing what to say. The venom in her voice made me tremble in fear. This was our first meeting, but she was bent on making me suffer. I'm just going crazy.
"Ma'am. Your son and I love each other so much that we can't do without each other." Was she testing me? "Believe me, I love your son."
"Please, leave my Son alone. He can't marry you. You're an old b***h," She threatened me.
"Oh, ma'am! That was too harsh! I'm still very young," I replied. She glanced at me furiously.
"I see, if you really want to marry my Son, it's going to be on one condition," She uttered, wearing a fake smile.
"Yes….. Yes…..yes," I replied desperately. I stood up full of life. "Ma'am I will do anything for Clinton. Name your conditions."
"You know what Lauretta, if you have any bad intentions towards me, don't go any further," she threatened me. Whatever she wants, I do. Yes, I don't care about any condition, but I still care about Clinton.
"I don't have any bad intentions for you or Clinton. Please, ma'am." I pleaded with her.
"Okay."
"So what is the condition?" I asked.
"You are going to obey and follow every one of my instructions in this house accordingly, okay? Every money we are going to spend in this house is going to come from you. You are going to buy or build a good Mansion for us. From today onwards, every house chore is going to be on you. Lastly, my Son is going to be in charge of your wealth and every other thing that belongs to you," She announced. I laughed and looked at her badly.
"Mom! All of these?" I asked.
"Yes! What do you mean?" She asked getting frustrated. "Remember you are too old for my Son. You are not his taste neither his spec." I frowned at her.
"Mom!" I called her. "Accepted, remember I promised to go by any conditions you bring. I'm okay with it," I said.
"Okay. Now that we have a deal, get me something nice to eat. You know it's bad for someone of my age to walk on an empty stomach."
I couldn't speak because I didn't want her to get angry at me again. I just nodded my head.
I went straight to the kitchen to prepare food for the family.
It was evening and I was in the corridor receiving air when this thought came to me. I don't know if I will feel sorry for myself or angry with myself. Just because of marriage. Shallow conditions.
Am I making the right decision by accepting her conditions? Was I too desperate?
