Chapter 9

1515 Words
We’re now sitting on the sofa watching Cobra Kai as we wait for the clothes to finish going through their drying cycle. I’m wearing a t-shirt with his dojo’s logo and a pair of soft black drawstring shorts that have the same dojo logo on the front, lower right leg. Kyo is wearing a matching set as well. Suddenly, there’s a loud boom from the thunder and lightning striking through the sky, which causes me to jump. “It’s okay, I’ll protect you,” he states as he pulls me closer to him. “My hero,” I respond before placing a kiss on his cheek, then proceed to lean my head on his shoulder. “I’m dreading having to drive home in that…thank goodness I don’t live too far from here…maybe I’ll get lucky, and the rain stops by the time my clothes are dry.” Kyo kisses the top of my head: “I can take you home, or you can stay over…I don’t have any classes until late afternoon tomorrow.” “That’s really tempting, but I have to work tomorrow.” I’ll stay over another time. “I completely understand. When the clothes are done drying, I’ll drive you home, then take an Uber back.” “Okay, sounds good, thank you, babe.” “You’re welcome.” About an hour later, the clothes are done drying, so I fold my clothes and place them in a duffel bag that also has the dojo logo. I didn’t think all of this merchandise was available for students… When I told Kyo that I’ll pay for the Items I’m using, he tells me not to worry about it. Once we’re ready to go, Kyo takes my bags to my car while I stay inside to avoid the rain, which was his idea. When Kyo gets back, his shirt is drenched and it clings to his chest, but he quickly removes it and puts on another t-shirt and a hoody then grabs a big umbrella that was inside of an umbrella bin while stating: “It’s ugly outside, but don’t worry, this umbrella hasn’t failed me yet” then we exit his place together through the back door; instead of going through his dojo. I have no idea how Kyo can see right now. All I can see is heavy rain coming down on the windshield. I can barely make out the cars in front of us. I silently thank whoever decided to put lights on cars. We make it to my place a few minutes later, and Kyo walks me to my door and once I step inside, he heads back to the car to get my bags. Once he gets back with my bags, I direct him to the kitchen while locking the door, then I follow him. “Thank you for everything, Kyo.” “You’re welcome, babe, it’s my pleasure helping you…now where do all of these groceries go?” he asks while turning his head to look around my kitchen. “It’s okay, I’ll put them away. You helped enough, I can do the rest.” “I’m going to help you, so you have two options: one - I put them away anywhere I think they would go, or two - we tag team and put them away together.” “Okay, Kyo, I'll pick option two, you can remove the stuff from the bags, and I’ll put them where they go unless you can accurately put items in the correct spots.” “Okay, let’s do this,” he states while taking his hoodie off and placing it on the back of a chair. I didn’t buy a lot of groceries, so we finish quickly, then my stomach growls loudly, which causes us to laugh. “I kind of forgot to eat lunch and dinner today….are you hungry?” “Kora, that’s not good. Please make sure to eat from now on.” “Yes, sensei,” I teasingly say while bowing. “Cute,” he replies with a laugh, and I give him a big, cheesy smile. “You didn’t answer my question, Kyo. Are you hungry?” He shrugs: “I could eat…come to think of it, I didn’t eat dinner either, I was a bit occupied pleasing my girlfriend.” I clear my throat and swallow hard, which causes him to laugh. “We can order out, and I’ll pick up the tip, or if there’s something here that you would like to eat, I can show you my cooking skills and make it,” he offers. “Hmm, let’s just have something quick that we can make together.” “Something quick? Okay, I saw you brought sandwich items. Should we have that?” “Yeah, a sandwich sounds good, and we can watch TV while we eat.” “Sounds good, Kora.” We both prepare our sandwiches. He opted to place tomato, lettuce, onions, salt, and black pepper with an assortment of different meats and cheeses on his bread. I put everything on mine that he has on his, minus the tomato, and I add olive oil and vinegar to it. We both grab a can of ginger ale to drink and a bag of ruffled potato chips on the side. We sit on the living room couch while eating our sandwiches, then the show Married At First Sight starts playing, which leads us into a discussion about our views on marriage, children, pets, etc. Neither of us would mind getting married and having kids in the future, but we do disagree when it comes to pets. I like the idea of having a pet, but only if I could have someone train it, and I wouldn’t want more than one. He wants a couple of dogs and a cat, and he doesn’t mind having to train them, which makes sense since he has the patience an instructor would need to train dogs. Once we’re done with our dinner and clean up, an involuntary yawn escapes my mouth. “I’ll order an Uber now,” he states as he promptly pulls out his phone, opens the app, and books a ride before I can protest his leaving. I miss him already. “Okay,” I respond in a disappointed tone. “The driver will be here in about fifteen minutes, so how about the tour you still owe me?” I shake my head yes: “Oh yeah, I do owe you a tour…this is my living room. My couch is light gray, and the cushions have colorful designs on them to match the sofa and the flower curtains. You already saw my kitchen s***h dining room. My cabinets are white with chrome knobs, and my counters are a gray and white marble design. My appliances are black with chrome. My table and chair set are white to match my cabinets. This is a picture of my parents,” I state while handing him the pictured frame that has all three of us smiling in it. “This is a cute family picture, you can see the love they have for you through it,” he responds while placing it back on the TV grey stand. I grab his hand and lead him down the hallway: “This is my bathroom.” “Wow, it’s so colorful in here,” he comments, and I laugh. “Yup, I like colorful and pretty things. Wait until you see my room,” I state while leading him more down the hallway and pointing out the linen closet and the washer and dryer area. “This is my room,” I state in a grand gesture while I open the door with a tada hand gesture, which causes him to laugh. “I was expecting your room to be like the bathroom and your sofa cushions; vibrant with color…it’s obviously still a feminine decorated room but I like the colors, the turquoise and light gray color concept with the splash of the pinks and yellows in here is very you…this phone dings with an alert…shit, my driver canceled, I’m so sorry for the delay babe, I know you’re tired.” “You don’t have to apologize…You could just stay over tonight.” “Are you sure, Kora? I know you have to work tomorrow morning, and I don’t want to impose.” “Of course, I’m sure, it’ll be like when I slept at your place, but you’ll be sleeping in bed with me, not on the sofa.” “Okay, I’d love to sleep over.” We waste no time getting comfortable for bed. I take off my clothes and slip into a big oversized shirt I use as a nightgown, which just so happens to have a small picture of a panda by the chest pocket, which makes Kyo laugh and state, “Cute, you have me by your heart,” before he decides to remove everything but his grey boxer briefs. Then we both climb into bed and fall asleep quickly.
