Mysterious people exert mysterious auras. I've felt that the moment I saw Jessy on the volleycourt. I knew their was something about her. I just couldn't explain it. As things starts to unfold, I'm finding it hard to keep up. Staring at her while conversing with Jared and the old man, I couldn't stop thinking about her. What else have she not told me? What are the things does she have up her sleeves that I didn't know about?
Blue muttered something behind my back, drawing my attention from Jessy to him.
"Oh, here it is. Check this out." Blue pulled me into a small pot with a tiny bush plant like that of a blackberry. It has tiny red leaves. Small, deep-blue buds starting to bloom. It's fragrance seeped my nose, creamy and husky at the same time.
"What is it?" I asked. Of all the plants in the greenhouse, it was the only plant placed in a covered case. There's also nothing like it. It's alone in all the garden. The diamond in the sea of gold. Whatever this flower is, people here wanted to protect it.
"It's called the Blood Lily," Blue said. "A vampire's greatest weakness. It weakens them. The flower has magical properties that if mixed with gunpowder can produce vampire-killing rounds. Melts them so they can no longer regenerate and be killed for good."
"Why is there only one plant?"
"Blood Lilies are rare. They're only found on the slopes of Mount Etna in the desert," he explained. "Mr. Balbers there tried to grow them here but only a few plants survived, enabling him to produce a few rounds for a few magazines. But that's just it. The plants died in the greenhouse until this one is all that's left. Balbers is trying to salvage this one, see if he can grow more. But months passed and still no progress. Imagine if this greenhouse is filled with Blood Lilies. Killing vampires would be a whole lot easier. We could actually stand a chance againts them."
Blue continued muttering about the flower, giving me an on-the-spot science class. I stared at the tiny blue bud about to shoot out of the sepals, about to reveal to the world its hidden beauty. How amazing to imagine that something so small and delicate can kill someone so strong and powerful. You can never truly question the existence of things in this world, no matter how small or delicate they may seem. Small things can have massive impacts, unimaginable but not impossible.
"I see you guys have met," a female voice said beside me. Jessy gave me a small smile.
"Oh Hannah, yeah, we met last night." Blue said and walked around the cased flower, admiring it.
My gazed fixed on Jessy/Hannah. "You lied to me," I told her. "About your name."
She gave me a dry glance and walked past me. "I had to. If that makes you feel bad I'm not sorry for it. I had to lie about my name or else Valeriouses could find me even before we get you."
"So you're name is Hannah." I followed her as she walked between the Wilmint plants, leaving Blue behind. "Lemme guess. You're last name isn't Baldimore."
"No." She replied. "It's Worthington. Baldimore is Jared's surname."
"And how are you related to him?" I asked out of nowhere. She turned around and gave me sour look.
"That is something you shouldn't concern yourself with."
"Right. I'm sorry. But maybe I deserve to know the reason why I'm here?" I demanded. We finally got out of the greenhouse and has emerged back into the hall. I followed her as she walked past other halfbloods, some giving her smiles, others greeting her.
None gave me a glance.
Hannah reached the back of her convertible and I grabbed her arm. "Jessy or Hannah whatever the heck your name is. Look, I don't mean to press you. But I need to know why I'm here."
"Didn't Blue told you about that?" She raised a brow and slightly pushed me.
"He didn't."
Hannah leaned her back againts the backdoor and crossed her arms over her chest. "The answer is pretty obvious, Pete. You're a halfblood that's why you're here. This is the only place that you'll be safe. Outside the Halfblood Haven is a messy battlefield between people like us and vampires. Even they can't go out and attack us on broad daylight, it's still unsafe for us to roam around specially at night. Vampires can sense halfbloods the way we can sense them. Wherever you set your foot on Peter, they'll find you and kill you. That's something you don't want to happen to you, is it?"
"I need to go home," I pointed out. "You need to take me home."
"I can't." She attempted to open the door of the car but I stopped her and made her face me.
"Look Hannah, I appreciate you guys saving my life. I truly do. But I need to go home. My mom's probably looking for me and she's terrible when she's mad."
"You can't go home." She said, firmly.
"Why not?"
"It's too dangerous. The Valerious coven already knows who you are. They'll be running after you. Going back to your mother will do you more harm than good. You might even put her life in danger."
I puffed air, frustrated. "Can I atleast call her just to assure her that I'm safe?"
"No."
"I'm not allowed to go out or to see my mom and now I'm not allowed to go talk to her?"
"Yes." And just like that she pulled the door open, got inside the car and left me.
