Chapter 10

I didn't feel like heading home immediately after that. The dusk skies had turned into a lovely concoction of red and purple. I recieved a message from Lawrence that they were in a bar and I found myself towards the place. Faint red and blue lights flickered on top of the door that said: Devil's Entry, Bar and Restaurant. Two huge male bouncers opened the door for me and I stepped into the dim-lighted room. Drunk people scattered in tables and the smell of liquour and cigarette seeped in my nostrils. Two arms waved at me from the farthest table to the left. "Thought you weren't coming," Luke said the moment I got close. He handed me a bottle of beer and puffed smoke from his cigarette. "How could I ditch your ugly face?" I gave him a smug smile. Smirking, he handed me a pack of cigarete which I shoved away. I already quit smoking two years ago after my mom banned me from entering the house for a whole week. "You're really scared of your mom, aren't you?" Luke grinned. I could tell that he's already drunk. I gave him a shrug. "So how was your eye thing?" Lawrence asked. My forehead creased. "The doctor told me it's normal." "Well then you have nothing to worry about." I drank the beer from the bottle. It's bitter taste journeyed down my throat and burned my chest. "Yeah, I think so." Besides there was nothing I could do about it. I was given another refferal slip for another doctor. Lawrence continued mumbling infront of me, followed by a sequence of chuckles from Luke. But I soon found myself no longer listening to their conversation. My body hairs stood. I felt like someone was watching me and that there is something moving around me who's incredibly swift like a black blur. Like an undercover spy, I was feeling overly sensitive to my surrounding. "Smokes, Pete! Are you deaf?" "What?" I turned back to Lawrence, startled. "Are you okay?" His brow shot up, higher than the Eiffel Tower. "Uh. . . Of course!" The feeling I had a few seconds ago suddenly disappeared. But my eyes keenly noticed a man going out of the bar. Nothing about him looks weird but my insides were occasionally churning when I saw him. Something doesn't feel right. "I have to leave," I declared. "Wait, what? But you just got here!" Luke said. "Sorry I. . . have to run some errands I'll see you guys tomorrow." I did not wait for them to respond. I got out of the bar just as the rain poured on me. "Great!" I mumbled to myself as I lifted my hood upwards. I searched for the man but he was no longer in sight. I grabbed myself together. Why was I being paranoid of a man who gets out of a bar? I puffed air and decided to leave. I'm being ridiculous to the point that I couldn't even understand myself. I better leave. This place is giving me creeps. I walked to find a ride home. Surely, my two asshole friends still has no plans of going home. The rain just poured even harder and I was already dripping wet. Thunder roared in the heavens and lightnings crackled and created electrical light patterns across the clouds. I wiped the raindrops on my face and trotted into an alley to where a small canopy hangs from a closed pastry shop. The skies rumbled above and I figured that I needed to get home. But the storm suggests that I take shelter first. The lamppost infront of me flickered and plastics flew along the wind. This storm doesn't look like it would stop soon so I headed out into the dark alley with towering building rears and fire exits. The rain had already soaked me as I stepped ahead. The alley came into a sharp curve. My wet footsteps complimented the chilly howls of the wind and the thundering skies. "Ahhhhhhh!" I froze. The yell came from somewhere behind me, from a dark corner to my left. There was a loud clattering that echoed from that direction. I walked back, too curious to find out what it is. The clattering continued as lightning flashed and I came into state of profound anxiety. My mouth dropped at the sight. A man about my size was kneeling infront of a boy's body, gnawing and gnashing on his insides. The body lie flat on the ground, eyes wide open and soaked in blood. My eyes widened as the man turned to me, mouth bloody, eyes nothing but black, and hissed. The next thing I knew I was already running for my life. My heart rate had probably tripled. What on earth was that dude? I bolted towards the next curve but the monster leaped from behind and landed with total ease infront of me. He bared his teeth, showing a set of bloody fangs. I froze, eyes twitching for any escape route. I took two slow steps backwards before turning around and running away. But the monster once again appeared infront of me. He snarled as sharp claws appeared on what used to be fingers. He snarled and dived for me. I dashed to a nearby screen door and slammed the knob. Darn it! It's locked! I pounded on the screen as the monster got up from it's fall. I glanced at the monster. I didn't have time to run away. I felt the wall on my back. I was cornered. I was alone. I was scared and I had nowhere else to go. The monster's fangs glistened with the lightning's flash. He slowly stepped towards me. I cursed under my breath and swallowed. This wasn't the ending I had mind. The monster pounced just as I dodged away, but he was able to grab my jacket and slammed me into the ground and it hopped on top of me. I yelled when it's claw scratched through my shirt, peircing the skin on my stomach. I kicked and punched. Damn, he was strong. I had managed to get a grip on it's head and slammed it on the wall behind it. The moment I got a chance, I tried to run. I cursed when I wasn't able to move. With a heavy grunt, it pulled my feet back. It lifted me from the ground and threw me into the other side of the alley where I crash-landed on a pile of empty cartons. "This dude is something," I mumbled to myself while trying to get up. My back hurts from the fall. The monster appeared infront of me, ready to pounce on his meal. I crawled backwards until I felt something hard behind my back. My heart went convulsive as the dude approached. I'm telling you all people, I wasn't ready this evening. But I think I don't have much choice. Three loud gunshots echoed in the alley and the monster fell on top of me. It wriggled and writhed. Steam erupted from it's body and exploded into dust, leaving a gooey blue gelly on my pants. Infront of me, a woman stood holding a gun. Raindrops trickled down her black hooded cape. Slowly, she took off her hood, revealing a pale face, red lips and fierce blue eyes. "I told you not to wander at night, Peter," she said. "Yet you still did."
