CHAPTER TWO

1018 Words
Miriam, shocked, flips through the pages of the file. She notices that the investment contract is fake. She gets up angrily and stomps out looking so frustrated while holding the investment file and staring at it with bewilderment. She mumbles, “This can't be happening, my company…my reputation.” “Oh God…” I hope this is a dream. She pinches herself. Damian enters the building; he's here to seal a contract with a company at the second level. But he has to go to the upper level first, which happens to be Miriam's company, to meet a friend. Miriam heads to the elevator. She presses the button, but it is inscribed “occupied'' at the top, so she waits for her turn while crossing her hands in disbelief with tears slowly running down her cheeks. Kylie, walking around looking for her. She notices her and walks down to meet her. "Ma'am.” Miriam turns slowly. Kylie notices the tears and feels so emotional. She hands her a handkerchief with her left hand while her right hand is occupied with some files. "Ma'am? I suggest you use the backdoor to avoid the press. This is a critical time. Miriam agrees with her. Just as she's about to turn and head to the backdoor, the elevator chimes open and Damian bumps into her accidentally. Miriam bursts out like a crazy woman. “Are you mad, Mr. Man?” or “Are you blind?” Damian says, “I'm not mad.” He responds sternly. Miriam hisses and walks out. Damian turns and looks at her as though he recognized her but couldn't fully tell. His eyes are a bit squinty, with his forehead creased, showing a bit of anger. He adjusts his gray tailored suit and heads to the left side of the company. Kylie, standing like she had been paused with a remote, finally snaps out. "Ha…” Is that not Mr. Damian, the highly influential billionaire?? She wonders and sighs. Hmm, this is taking a great toll on Miss Miriam, and the company will crash if something isn't done immediately. She heads out. Damian taps on the door of Mr. Jerry, who is his friend. “Yes, come in,” Mr. Jerry says. What a surprise, my good friend. Mr. Jerry says. He rushes to shake and hug him. It's been a while. Mr. Damian says. Mr. Jerry responds, Oh yes, since we last saw you on your goddaughter's birthday, with a smile on his face. Pardon my manners; please have a seat. Mr. Damian sits with a straight posture with his back leaning against the chair. The kind that describes wealth, power, and confidence. What would you like to drink? Mr. Jerry asks. Damian says, “Whiskey will surely do.” What of my goddaughter?" Damian asks. She's fine. Everybody has been asking after you. And you're a man who is hard to reach out to. Jerry says. And they both laugh. Well, it's one business or the other taking all my time. I'll find time to come visit everybody someday. Damian says. Jerry says, "Keep to your promise.” You know that your goddaughter will be angry while handing him the glass of whiskey if you don't keep to it. Damian gets the glass of whiskey and taps it slowly while staring into it. Then he slowly raises up his face. Don't just tell her anything; I don't want to break her fragile heart. Jerry laughs out loud. You and your goddaughter are inseparable. Damian smiles. I love my goddaughter. Then drinks his whiskey. “I know, right?” So what brings you here? Mr. Jerry asks. I'm here to seal a contract with the company at the second level. Damian says. The Founderson A.P. company? Jerry asks. Yes. Damian says. That's huge. My childhood friend. My highly influential billionaire. Mr. Jerry teases. Damian smiles, this time revealing his white, dented teeth. Damian adjusts and keeps a straight face; he clears his throat. I want to ask a question. Go ahead. Mr. Jerry says. I bumped into a lady on my way to your office. I could recognize her but not really. "She was rude to me,” he said with a cold tone. Do you know who she is? Can you describe her? Mr. Jerry says. She's tall, has a curvy figure, and has short blonde hair. Damian says. Ohh. That's Miss Miriam. The CEO, Mr. Jerry, responds. Damian nods quietly. Jerry chips in, "There's a huge matter in the other part of the company.” There was a fake investment. I don't know the full details, though. He says, shrugging his shoulders. Then that explains why the press is at the entrance of the building. Damian says calmly but with a smirk on his face, forming a mischievous smile. He finishes his whiskey, drops the glass on the table, and stands up. Thank you, my friend. Damian says. Jerry cuts in, not letting him complete his sentence. So fast?? Yes. Damian says, as though in a hurry. My schedule is tight today. I just needed to check on you while adjusting his tie and cuffs to fit perfectly. We'll see some other time. And remember not to tell her anything. He points at him. Okay, boss. Jerry says. Maybe we could hang out later today after your meetings, Jerry suggested. Damian pauses and thinks, "That's a great idea.” Just to catch up on old times. We'll meet at Louis V.; I'll make the reservations. Just go and wait for me. I'll come there straight after my meetings. He said "fast” and went out, but in a soft way, his aura intriguing with his calculated steps. Jerry laughs lightly and says typical billionaire style humorously. Miriam is inside her car. Angry, frustrated, and not knowing what to do. Sits in her car for some minutes thinking. I need some air, some quiet, and probably some drinks. Louis V. is definitely the place she talks out loud. She drives out furiously; her phone buzzes with tons of messages and calls. But no response.
