CHAPTER FIVE

Her file falls, and the documents scatter everywhere. Ouch. They both say. Miriam quickly bends to pack the documents. Damian assists her too, as the documents are many. They both hit their heads together, slowly raising their faces and bodies together. Standing closely to each other. They stare at each other, full of admiration, their eyes twinkling like stars. Miriam shifts her gaze slowly from his deep blue eyes to his lips, looking lustfully at them and his aligned jawline and his well-chiseled abs. His cologne made him smell like heaven. She was literally drooling. Damian holds his breath. He feasted his eyes on her whole body, taking his time; her skin brushed against his, feeling the warmth. He admires her beauty, her slightly exposed cleavage that made his skin have goosebumps, and her curvy shape like a work of art. They both admire each other's bodies lustfully, as though they could eat themselves up at that very moment. Miriam, getting ahold of herself, coughs. She raises her head gently and stares at him. She notices a birthmark on his left ear, one not hard to miss. She quivers. Pushing him and running away as though she had just encountered a monster. Damian, seeing that, was puzzled. Trying to understand why she had run off like that. What just happened? He said in a confusing tone. He notices a document under the vase. He picks it up, looks at it, and walks away. Miriam opens her door fast and rushes in. Her heart was pounding. Her legs were shaking. She could barely stand. She managed to get to her bed. She sits, placing her phone and the file on the side of the bed. Trying to catch her breath, is that not Damian, a senior at Wells High College, the ruthless bully? A devil in human form. Saying to herself. She had remembered how Damian bullied her and her friends. He showed them no mercy, and they all hated him so much. He was untouchable and always getting away with things. Whenever they sighted him coming from afar, they would run so fast and hide. Other students feared him too and always avoided him at all costs. What is he doing here? Hmmm. High school was hell. I'm in hell already, and I just met with the devil. So were the thoughts in her head. Damian goes back to his room. Still baffled at what had happened. He walks to the living room, thinking, pours himself some whiskey, and sips a little. Damian sits on the couch, with the glass in one hand, staring at the document; he flips through it and decides to read it. Miriam searches for the bag brought by Kylie earlier. She finds something light and changes into it. She gets her wipes from her bag and goes to sit in front of the mirror. She wipes her face and is reminiscing about the encounter earlier. I just hope that isn't Damian Cole, maybe some other person. She whispers to herself. She walks to her bed, sits, and picks up the file to go through it one more time before sleeping. She notices that the investor's fund document is missing. What?. Oh s**t. She rushed out immediately and went to the side lobby where she and Damian had bumped into each other earlier. She looks around, turning to each side, looking flustered, but doesn't find anything. She thinks to herself, could it be that maybe the cleaner thought it was trash? Or could Damian be with it?. Which one could it be? Asking herself with her hand placed on her chin and the other placed on her waist. Hmm, with some breath, let out. That document is very important, and I need to find it. Miriam says. What should I do? She asks herself. I don't know if Damian has gone or if he stays in one of the suites, and I do not think it could be the cleaner. It was just us here. She quickly runs to the receptionist. Hello, Ma'am. Good evening. Miriam, trying to slow down, doesn't respond to the greeting. Her question was brushed out immediately. Which room does Damian stay in? Miriam asks. Mr. Damian Cole, the CEO of D and C's company? The receptionist asks with her face slightly tight. Yes. Miriam responds but is unsure. I can't tell you, ma'am. His stay here is discreet. Please, it is very important. It is a matter of life and death. She lied. The receptionist, sensing the seriousness, tells her the suite number Mr. Damian is staying in. She rushes off. Damian is done reading the documents. He came across a company's name that had once defrauded his company when he started. His face boiling, his hands clenched on the glass so firmly, he dropped the documents on the table. Miriam reaches Damian's door. Scared of knocking because she knows who she's about to face. She slowly takes her hand and knocks on the door. Mr. Damian turns, looking at the door with anger. He gets up slowly and walks to the door. He opens it. Miriam could feel the intriguing aura and coldness. He still had that effect on people. Even now. Damian was completely lost, and watching Miriam stand in front of him, his emotion loosened a bit, and he asked her to come in. Miriam steps in scared. Please sit. Damian says. There's no need. I'm here to ask if you have seen the... documents. She hadn't completed her sentence when Damian cut in. "This?” Damian asks, pointing to the document on the table. The investors fund. He said. Miriam is angry ......... Did you read it? She asked. You're still the old you. She shouted. Damian twists his head and looks at her, mesmerized at her boldness, and sips his whiskey. You seem to know me very well. But I do not know you. He says. Well, I've gone through the documents, and I've decided to help you. Damian says. I do not need your help. You can go to hell. She says. Damian smiles wickedly. You'll need it. Hands her the documents. But if you agree to it, there's a condition. Miriam snatches the document and turns. She pauses. Rethinks of what will happen if she doesn't get a refund. What's the condition? She asks shakingly. "A contract marriage,” Damian says strongly. “Miriam turned and stared at him with the utmost confusion. Without a word, she turns and walks away”.
