Meet the parents

He lent Jayce some jeans and a tee and brought me some clothes i had laid out for today already.

“Jayce this is my brother Ethan, Ethan this is my mate Jayce.” I smile proudly at her and I feel her happiness and my claiming her.

“It’s nice to finally meet you alpha.” He says shaking her hand. How did he know.

“Likewise.” She says standing tall. “Are you prepped for next week?” She asks him and I’m lost.

“Absolutely! I’m prepped now.” He replies quickly. “Thank you for doing this no one else thinks it’s worth it.”

“We need our mates I’m sorry it’s gone this long to begin with.” She says to him. And i realize they are talking about Ethan’s mate Elle.

*is he leaving?* I link Jayce.

*We will be leaving. I’m leading the rescue team* she links back.

*rescue team? You’re going to leave me?*

*We need our people back. I’ve had the rogues followed back to their human traffickers and found a warehouse we think they are keeping them. We have an inside man but the council is making us wait another week to be sure it’s our people.*

I look up at her with pride but also with worry. I don’t want anything to happen to her or to my brother.

Ethan clears his throat “Y’all ready to go inside? Moms waiting to ambush you.” He laughs jokingly.

I tear my eyes from Jayce and look at him “I know you’re joking but on a scale of 1-10 how bad is it?” I ask him.

“Oh you know an 11.. she’s pissed you bailed on the party and then when we heard the uh noises coming from the pool house she thought you were still with Will.” Jayce growls low. “When we saw Will come back without you she pieced it together and rushed everyone out of here. She won’t say anything in front of Jayce though. I can’t wait to introduce Alpha Jayce Moore of Cold Moon Pack as your mate she’s going to flip.”

I look to Jayce. “Is this okay with you? She can be a lot..”

“I’m sure I’ll manage. She can’t be that scary.” She jokes and we head for the main house.

My mother is mixing pancake batter at the counter while my dad is reading with his coffee at the table. When he sees us coming he puts his book down and smiles. I see him stand to greet us through the glass and I squeeze Jayces hand. She squeezes back letting me know it’s okay. My dad opens the door and goes in for a hug. “I’m so happy for you Lex!” I squeeze him a second longer. “So you must be Jayce I’m so happy to finally meet you.” He says extending his hand to Jayce. “I’m happy to meet you as well Mr. Ortiz.” She replies taking his hand firmly. “Please call me Travis. No need for titles you are family now.” They smile at each other. “Come in breakfast will be done soon!” We step in and Ethan is at the counter with mom already. He clears his throat again. “Mom this is Alpha Jayce Moore of Cold Moon Pack, Lexas mate.” My mother all but chokes on the gum in her mouth and I try not to laugh. “Ahem.. I’m sorry Alpha, I wasn’t expecting that. Lexa never mentioned you were an alpha.” She says looking between us and bowing slightly.

“Lexa was unaware as well ma’am, but it is nice to meet you.” My mother smiles. She actually smiled. How fake. At least she’s playing nice.

Breakfast was uneventful and then Jayce turned to me and asks if I’m ready to go home. It sounds nice but this has always been my home. I get nervous and look around. “Don’t worry we can come back all the time and fly them in too.” She is speaking so softly to me and I see my mother make a face. “Yes I’m ready.” I say finally. “Ethan would you like to leave now or should I send for you next week?” She asks my brother. My parents look confused. “You are taking both my children?” My mom asks. Jayce looks at her with such pride and finality she says “I am taking my mate, and I am offering a choice to a soldier I have plans with.” My mother cowers. “Actually could you just give me 2 days and send for me I’m scheduled for patrol and then I’m free” he says to Jayce and she nods.
