“H-Hehe I said I’m going to look for your Uncle!” he nervously said like he’s watching my every reaction. He’s back to his usual self again.
“A-Are you crazy?! I’m not allowing you!” I shouted at him, which made him sigh. Why the hell would he look for my uncle at night? I do want to look for my uncle, but it’s dangerous to look for him alone!
“But Nyx…” he pleaded, but I just shook my head. I am not allowing him to leave this household. If he will leave then he has to bring me along with him.
“I will come with you if you really want to leave…you don’t even know my Uncle yet and I’m pretty sure you don’t even know what he looks like,” I claimed, which made him shook his head.
“I saw a picture frame with a man with you, so I know what he looks like now hehe!” he compromised, so I just sighed. He’s so stubborn!
“Look...I’m worried about my Uncle, but I don’t want to worry more if you go out there alone! Can we just look for him together tomorrow?” I asked and he looks like he doesn’t want to agree with me, but he just sighed and nodded.
“Good, now take a bath I’ll lend you some clothes,” I ordered while going straight to my Uncle’s spacious room. I closed the door and sit on the cold ground. I’m really worried about my Uncle…why would someone take him away? We’re just a family of mere mortals we don’t have anything special to offer.
I just sighed, I have to be strong if I’m worried so as my Uncle right now. I hope he’s okay…I stood up and went to get Ash’s clothes for tonight…I’ll ask if he wants to buy some clothes on the next day after tomorrow since it’s our day off from our school every Sunday.
When I was busy choosing some clothes for Ash on my Uncle’s wardrobe, I caught a glimpse of the brown old-looking sling bag on the ground that my Uncle always uses on the other side of the bed. If I’m not mistaken, he left with this bag the other day.
I went over there to place it on the bed when I accidentally tripped over on some pillows on the ground and some of the things on inside fell as my body falls on the comfy bed harshly.
“O-Ouch,” I hissed and got up immediately as I try to put the other things that fell over on his sling bag when a gold box caught my attention.
“What is this?” I mumbled as I tried to peek in on the inside. After I open it, I saw an odd-looking necklace on the inside, it’s a flame-shaped transparent pendant that was bordered with silver spirals from around its corners, its silver chains looks like it was almost glowing.
This necklace is so beautiful, I wonder why Uncle has this expensive-looking necklace? This doesn’t even look so ancient. I was about to put it again on the inside when I saw a white folded scented paper on the inside.
I didn’t want to open it but there’s this sudden urge inside me that wants to read it. I shook my head and just opened the folded paper.

If you’re finally reading this letter, I know for sure that we’re already gone from this world…we’ve done everything we could to cover up our daughter and your tracks so rest assured that you’ll be safe from them. For now. This also means that you dug up and went to the place that I told you for you to obtain this box.
Please give this to our daughter after she turned eighteen…I know you wouldn’t want her to have this to keep her safe but please do think about it, time will pass by fast and he will come to look and find her…this will keep her safe for a while just in case she hasn’t found her protector yet.. she will be safer from them.
I wouldn’t ask you to take care of her because I know for sure that you will, my dear brother. Thank you for everything. Till then.

After I have read the letter, I don’t know why tears were continuously falling on my cheeks. This letter was from my mom. They left this necklace for me, what is happening? What do they know that I don’t know? Why do they want me to be safe? Who am I in danger with? I don’t understand…
I was pulled back to reality after hearing several knocks on the door. It’s Ash he’s probably finished.
“Nyx? Are you in there?” he asked from the outside, so I composed myself before wearing the necklace. I immediately hid the box on my back while running towards the door.
“H-Hey sorry your clothes are in the—AHHH!” I shouted and pushed him away from me when I saw him naked again, thank God I wasn’t looking down! I blocked my eyes with my pale white hands hoping that he won’t come near me. I can feel my face heat up because I saw how beautiful his abs were. It was sculpted perfectly. I mentally slapped myself what the hell am I thinking?!
“O-Ouchie! You’re always hurting me Nyx huhuhu!” I heard him mumbled from somewhere, so I tried so hard to get away from him without looking.
“What the hell Ash! Don’t walk around the house butt naked! Go get your clothes on the bed! Next time I see you like this again I’ll freaking kill you!” I shouted before running downstairs to take a bath.
I can’t believe that guy! It’s always a rollercoaster of emotion when I’m around him! I shook my head and focused on cleaning myself inside the bathroom. I clutched the necklace that was dangling on my chest…I need to wear this from now on, this was given to me by my mother. I will never take this off again.
I don’t understand what my mother was talking about in her letter but one thing is for sure, their death wasn’t an accident like what my Uncle’s been telling me when I was still a child. They did everything they could to protect me and my Uncle from someone. Did my mother and father have enemies?
My mind suddenly thought of Ash and made me worry for a bit, should I tell him what I have found? I’m scared…I don’t know if I could trust him that yet. He did save me earlier…but I have to be wary of my surroundings now that my Uncle is missing.
I immediately finished my bath and right after I have finished wearing some decent clothes, I went outside my bedroom only to see that Ash was patiently waiting for me to get out, I glared at him when he met my gaze which made him whimper.
“Please forgive me Nyx! That wasn’t intended okay? Y-You see, I’m used to be naked since I have no clothes before inside my Golden egg!” I glared at him even more at what I have heard, so I just sighed. He did say sorry and how long has he been living inside of that egg? I shook my head and went to get some bandages.
“I-It’s fine, forget about it…come here let me see your burn—eh? It’s gone? H-How?” I furrowed my eyebrows right after I have checked his arms. It was like nothing has happened to him, I tried to flipping it over just to make sure, but he gently stops my hands for me to look at him.
He sighed before looking at me again, “Few fire dragons like me have the ability to heal our wounds that fast most especially if it’s just a little wound so don’t worry about it anymore,” he explained, which made me nodded. I’ve heard about that before but only strong and trained ones can do that.
Is he that powerful? I mentally asked myself but shook my head before pulling him towards the bedroom of my Uncle.
“Here, you can sleep here for tonight,” I said and he looked at me intently like he doesn’t want to do that.
“I want to sleep with you Nyx,” he pleaded, which made me sigh while shaking my head lazily. I’m really exhausted today.
“You can’t okay?” I argued, but he just pouted.
“I want to keep you safe and I want to watch over you…can I do that, please? My dragon wants to protect you…it’s not safe anymore to leave you alone,” he pouted as he holds my hand tightly. I don’t think I would be able to sleep either because I’m too worried for my Uncle.
He also does have a point…our rooms were slightly far from each other, from what is currently happening to our surroundings I think he’s just worried about me. I sighed and just nodded which made him cheer while punching his knuckles in the air, we both went together inside of my room.
I went to get some extra blankets and pillows from my Uncle’s room and prepared them on the side below my bed. I don’t think he can move around from here, but he’ll manage.
“Here and please don’t try to do something funny or you know what you’ll get,” I said while motioning my gripped knuckles from my face which made him smile.
"Aye, aye captain!" he saluted before laying down on the floor. I shook my head because I find him really amusing, but shrugged as I laid down myself.
It took me a while to fall asleep, but before I could overthink about my Uncle's safety again I fell asleep.

I woke up when I felt some warm hands wrapped around my body. I opened my eyes only to see that Ash's hands were wrapped on my waist and he's currently laying down below still sleeping soundly.
I blushed because of the gesture and slowly took his hands off me before going downstairs to cook some breakfast.
My hands clutched to my chest when I saw the dining was empty. I was expecting to see my Uncle cooking some food for my breakfast even though it's only buns, eggs, and bacon. I shook my head and started cooking, after class, we'll go look for him.
"Goodmorning!" he greeted, which made me look up to him only to see that's he's yawning.
"Yep, good morning," I greeted back, so he just smiled before lazily sat down on the seats.
"What's the next class all about today Nyx?" he asked before munching on the food that I prepared for him.
"Hmm...I-I don't know...Maybe the continuation of the Mortals and Warriors training," I said, so he just nodded while swallowing his food.
What would Uncle say if I finally got a mate? I'm sure he'll be thrilled. Where is he? What could they be doing to him now?
"Are you okay Nyx?" he asked so I looked at him, he looks worried about me so I just sighed and nodded.
"Y-Yeah, just worried about my Uncle that's all," I admitted, so he just nodded like he understands how I feel.
"Don't worry! We'll find him okay? So cheer up I don't want to see you frown," he pouted, which made me flinch. I looked at him and he's just greedily munching his food.
He really looks so handsome that I'd get shy whenever I'm walking around with him, I wonder...if I saw him before. I wonder when we will do that ritual.
"Oh! By the way Nyx, we have to do one ritual today!" he said making me choke on my own breakfast.
He immediately hurried to my side to offer me some water, I thanked him after drinking it so I glared at him.
"Don't say something that would shock me okay? I-I'm not used to it yet..." I mumbled, so he just smiled.
"But I'm serious Nyx we have to do a ritual now, is that okay?" he sincerely asked, so I have no other choice but to nod. We won't do anything funny right?
"Come here and let me mark you first," he mumbled, which made me gasp as he motioned me to stand up with him away from our dining.
