I Can't Protect You From Me

715 Words
The sun went down. The room felt cold and blue. I looked out the window at the sea. I felt so alone. Everything I knew was gone. I started to cry, the tears hot on my face. Suddenly, a cold breath hit my neck. I spun around, shaking. It was Hazier. The scar on his face looked white in the moonlight. He looked just as dominant as his brother. “Wha—what do you want?” I whispered. He didn't answer. He just smirked and grabbed my hand. He slid his touch all the way up to my shoulder. His skin was like ice. “Please—” I tried to step back. “I was wondering...” He started playing with my hair. He twisted it around his fingers and leaned in close. “What a human and vampire kid would look like. A hybrid.” He stared at me like I was a prize. My heart was racing so fast I couldn't breathe. Hazier leaned in until I could feel the cold coming off his skin. He twisted a lock of my hair around his finger, pulling my head back slightly. “Don't cry, princess,” he whispered. His voice was like a knife. He wasn't being nice. He was looking at me like I was something he wanted to steal from his brother. “Zaphiton wants a queen. But I... I want to see what kind of monster we could make together.” I tried to push his hand away, but he was too strong. He was like a wall of ice. “Please, let me go,” I sobbed. He just smirked. He moved his hand from my hair to my throat. He didn't squeeze, but I knew he could. “You're so fragile, princess. One snap and you’re gone. Does my brother know how much you taste like fear?” Suddenly, the shadows in the room turned pitch black. The door didn't just open—it exploded off its hinges. “Hazier.” Zaphiton’s voice didn't sound like a man. It sounded like a storm. He was standing in the doorway, and the floor was cracking under his feet. The sound of Hazier’s spine hitting the stone wall made me scream. “You touched what is mine,” Zaphiton hissed. His voice wasn't human. It was a dark, vibrating growl that made my teeth ache. Hazier’s face went purple. He clawed at Zaphiton’s wrist, but it was like trying to move a mountain. “My Lord... I was... just—” “Silence.” Zaphiton leaned in, his eyes turning into pits of endless black. He looked ready to tear his brother's head off. “Get out. Before I decide I don't need a brother anymore.” He reached out and traced the line of my jaw with a cold finger. “No one touches what is mine,” he whispered, his voice vibrating deep in his chest. “Not even my own blood. I will tear this world apart before I let anyone else lay a finger on you.” I trembled under his gaze. He saw the tear track on my cheek and wiped it away with his thumb, his grip tightening just enough to let me know I couldn't move. “Listen to me, love,” he growled softly, his eyes locking onto mine. “I can protect you from anyone in this world. I can kill anyone in this world.” He leaned in even closer, his cold breath ghosting over my lips. His voice dropped to a dark, haunting whisper that made my heart stop. “But I can’t protect you from me.” I gasped. I was frozen. I was sure he was going to kill me or kiss me. My eyes were wide and stinging. "Don't forget to breathe, love." Then, he stepped back. He gave me a snarky smirk, like he enjoyed my fear. In a blink, he vanished. He just melted into the shadows and was gone. I collapsed. My legs turned to water. I sat on the cold floor, shaking and gasping for air. The room was silent, but I could still feel him everywhere. "Please," I breathed, closing my eyes tight. "Please just let this be a dream."
