The crime scene was a bust. There was no useful evidence, to lead us to the Erlking's location. I was sitting in front of the windows in the central office back in the station, staring at the photographs pinned there. A chair appeared beside me.
"See anything?" A male voice drawled. I turned my head to study the wolf to my left.
"Plenty, though nothing useful as yet," I replied taking another sip of my coffee. My gaze stopped on the last photograph. I sat up, placing my mug on the table behind me. I stood up and plucked the picture off the glass. Garu stood up beside me.
"Gloom?" I pointed to the corner of the picture. Sitting on the desk was a family photo.
"The picture, what of it? Everyone has family photos." He asked confused.
"Look in the background of the photo. There in the shadows of the trees." I said. Garu squinted. I sighed, turning I looked around the room for a moment before taking the photo over to the scanner. I quickly uploaded it to the screen before going to the laptop at the head of the table. Finding the correct tab, I zoomed in on the spot. Garu swore, running one hand through his thick dark hair.
"Is that who I think it is?" He growled. I nodded leaning back against the table. I felt eyes on me. I turned my head and waved Firebrand into the room. He stepped inside with Swift and Visor. The latter still had Shuggy on her shoulder. The male Sprite jumped from her to me. He sat, drawing the dark energy swirling from me as the others studied the widescreen on the wall.
"He is meant to be dead. Your father killed him." Firebrand murmured. I nodded, keeping silent. I needed to go home. I'd not returned in centuries, my father and I had never been the same after my brother's death.
"Lord Gloom and I need to have a conversation about his Erlking hunt. How far away is your family home?" Our boss asked casually.
"Several hours. If we leave now, we will be there by morning." I stated finishing the last of my coffee. Firebrand nodded.
"Good. The rest of you. Follow up with the victim's parents. I want all the family photographs studied. See if the same male is in any others." Firebrand ordered. I motioned for Shuggy to go back to Sharee. he jumped effortlessly. I dropped the cup in the bin as I left the room. My mind whirling with all the new information. One question, paramount in my mind. If my father did not kill the Erlking he hunted, why the hell did he say he did?
I was driving. We had been on the road for four hours. Jack was catching up on some much-needed sleep, having woken me several times the night before with his insatiable appetite. I was struggling with the emotions flowing through me. I'd never been good at regulating myself, always choosing to jump in headfirst and f**k the consequences. I'd proved it time and again in the centuries, I'd been with the Elite and again last night with Jackson. Damn it, Jackson. You've bitten off more than you can chew with this male, Amity. I thought rolling one shoulder. Males had never really been on my radar. I'd chosen mostly to take care of business myself instead of the hassle of another ego competing for my attention. Once in a while, I would search someone out, though it was rare and I never spent the entire night with them.
I looked at the male snoring softly beside me. His green scales only enhanced his looks. I'd never known an attraction like this. The moment my eyes fell on him, my blood had heated and I'd felt an intense wave of desire. When he spoke, it was as though my world had been kicked out from under me. I'd had to fight to concentrate, wanting only to close my eyes and drift on the deep cadence of his voice. It was inevitable for my mind not to turn to the activities from the night previous. Jackson had been a generous and voracious lover, being a vampire was the only reason I was able to keep up with him. The dragon beside me was incredible. The memories of our time together rolled through my mind like a tormenting movie reel. I could feel my blood heating in my veins. I was tempted to pull over to the side of the dark road and ride the male beside me until we were both screaming out our releases. Making a decision, I slowed the ute and turned into a secluded rest stop. When I stopped the vehicle, I expected Jackson to wake up. I frowned when he did not open his eyes, continuing to snore. With a wicked smile, I leaned back in my seat, resting my head against the leather. I closed my eyes and expanded my mind. Firebrand was an open book. I stepped into his subconsciousness and grinned wickedly.
Jack was dreaming. He was in a brightly lit, furnished cave. Sitting in a large armchair before a fire, he was reading a book when I walked in. The dragon shifter looked up, his eyes skimmed my bare body. He placed the book beside him on the little table. I straddled his thighs. The male gripping my hips with powerful, yet gentle hands. I leaned into his body, my breasts mashing against his chest. Pressing my mouth to his, he opened his lips as my tongue invaded his mouth. Gentle hands, pulling my closer. I undulated against him, feeling his arousal growing against me, with each movement I made with my hips. Jackson cupped my breasts, drawing one up to his mouth. I hissed when he sucked one into his mouth, strongly. I drove my hands into his hair, arching my back to bring my body closer to his amazing mouth and the intense sensation he created inside me. One hand slid out of his hair and down his chest to his waistband. With a quick flick of my fingers, the button fly of his jeans was open. I reached inside to stroke his rock hard shaft. Jackson groaned into my mouth.
Pulling my mind from his, I looked over to find the male beside me with an incredible erection. Unbuckling my belt I removed my jeans and underwear from my legs. I was slow and careful not to disturb my dragon. Positioning myself on his thighs, I closed my eyes for a minute, drawing his scent into my lungs. With slow nimble fingers, I freed him from his trousers. Moving quickly before his natural defences hid his c**k behind his scales, Firebrand groaned softly as I lowered my wet dripping core onto him, drawing the male deep inside me. My breath hitched as I lifted up and slid firmly back down onto him. I pushed my mind back into his as I rode him slowly.
"Amity, yes baby, come on." He growled, crushing me against him as he sat up straighter. His fingers dug into my thighs, holding me still while he pinned me to him. I could feel my o****m approaching rapidly. My breath coming in short pants, body shivering as he pounded into me.
"Jackson," I whispered achingly.
"I'm here." He replied leaning in to kiss me.
"Open your eyes," I growled breaking my psychic hold on him. I was nearing the peak and I wanted him with me when I went over the edge. Jackson's eyes suddenly popped open, his hands gripping my hips with such force it was bordering on painful. He growled, eyes beginning to glow. With one hand he jerked open the door. For a moment I thought he was going to toss me out, for my taking him without his being awake. I must have said something aloud, for he answered me.
"Amity, if you want me, f*****g take me. Waking up to you, riding me is f*****g sexy." He growled turning to lay me on the seat. He stood on the ground, hammering into me with enough force to shake the big ute. I was spiralling.
"Jack, Jack." My soft cried turning into a long scream as my body erupted. Firebrand jerked several times against me, growling. He bent forward, resting his head against my stomach. His heart beating rapidly in his chest. I ran one hand through his soft hair and over the warm, smooth scales at the back of his neck. He lifted his head to look at me. Something passed from him to me and back again as our gazes met. A curious wrenching in the mind and heart.
"Do you need to feed?" He murmured. With a small smile, I shook my head.
"No. Tomorrow, maybe. I am alright." I replied. Jack stood up. I hissed as he pulled out of my body, my nerves lighting up again. A small o****m rolling through me. My male grinned at my reaction. Opening the glove compartment, he retrieved a packet of wet wipes. With gentle hands, he cleaned me and then himself. I sat up and redressed.
"I need to think about the reason we are in the middle of nowhere or I am going to throw you on the bonnet of this car and f**k you until neither one of us can walk. How far are we from your parents?" Jack asked. I trampled down my rising desire at his words.
"Another two hours," I answered softly, struggling with my need to rip his clothes off.
"I'll drive," Jack said. I nodded. He walked me to my door. I jumped up and settled into the seat. Firebrand leaned in, pressing his lips to mine in an open-mouthed carnal kiss. With a smirk, he pulled back and closed my door. I concentrated on levelling out my breathing. I frowned, sitting up. It didn't take this long to walk around a car. I opened my door and dropped to the ground, drawing the gun out of the holster in the door well. Firebrand was held by the throat. His feet slightly off the ground. I pulled the trigger. The bullet ripped through the side of the vampire holding my boss and lover. Hissing in pain, Jackson was dropped. He staggered backward. I came to his side, the weapon still aimed towards the attacking male. He turned glowing eyes to me.
"Hello, Papa," I said in a conversational tone, flashing him a small smile.
"Amity, this male is a Dragon. What has possessed you to take him as your lover?" My father demanded savagely.
"This is your father?" Jackson turned questioning eyes on me.
"Yes. I am sorry for what he did. It was uncalled for. It's not as though I am a fledgling living under his roof. I have not seen him in centuries. Hello, mother." I called glancing at the right. My mother strode out of the tree line.
"Amity, darling. You should have called. Your sister is grateful to you for Erika and Nok. This must be Jackson Firebrand. I have heard much of you. Calm down Morstin, can you not see, our daughter has bonded with this male." Esta Gloom announced with a smile. Jackson and I looked at each other, surprised.
"I-, um." I began.
"We can discuss it later. Right now, we need to ask you some questions. Morstin Gloom, did you or did you not kill Harlmern Erlking?" Jack demanded. I watched my father's face. Mother sighed, she met my father's resigned gaze.
"That is a long story, my daughter." Esta murmured. Morstin sighed.
"No, I did not kill him. It was the deal, I made to save Amity's life." He answered simply. I blinked, shocked.
"s**t," Jack muttered sourly.
