MALYKA:
I open my eyes, hoping to find her there, the one who called out to me in my dream… My Mate, but as I scan the room I see no friendly face, no familiar eyes looking back at me.
“She’s gone.” Lila says from the corner of the room, watching my eyes dart about, frantically searching. “She left a few hours ago, didn’t look in too good shape to be honest. Rode that giant wolf skin of hers out of this camp like she was running from the devil himself.”
An ache appears in my chest at her words, replacing my desire with something…. Absent… I lie my head back down, closing my eyes to hide the sting of tears threatening to appear.
I take a deep breath, fishing inside of myself for that bond, that link to her.
