I am the True Luna

No. No. No. No. No. No. This cannot be happening. Natalia’s whole body was rigid as she fought the urge to spring from her seat and run from the room. Her breathing was so hard that her vision blurred and Alpha Greythorn’s voice buzzed in her ears. She vaguely felt her Father’s hand reach for hers, as if trying to push his strength into her crumbling body. Her mind was racing so hard that she couldn’t have stop the yelp that burst from her lips, her wolf pushing itself forward in its attempts to protect Natalia. “Natalia!” her Mother sweetly barked at her, kicking her swiftly under the table. This snapped Natalia back to the dining room and she quickly tried to recompose herself. As her vision cleared she noticed that all of the table was looking at her, as it waiting for her to speak. Alpha Greythorn looked down at her nervously. “Natalia, I asked if you would be so gracious to allow us to host a Luna Ball on your behalf. All second born Alpha’s from the country will be invited to make your acquaintance.” Natalia could only stare so Alpha Greythorn continued, filling the silence “It will be an honour to host all of the great packs at the Luna Ball. We hope to foster a strong alliance with the pack who bore the second Alpha that will mate with our True Luna and take over as Alpha of the Goodhaven Pack.” Natalia gasped. Take over as Alpha of the Goodhaven pack, what on earth does he mean. After all had settled and returned to polite dinner conversation, Alpha Greythorn leaned over and spoke softly to Natalia “Meet with me for coffee in my study after dinner Natalia. There is much we must discuss”. Natalia sunk onto the sofa in Alpha Greythorns office and held her head in her hands. “Natalia, please understand. I have no sons, no one to pass our pack on to. This is the only way.” Alpha Greythorn pleaded with her to understand. Natalia looked up at his face. Noticing the dark circles around his eyes and the greying hair at his temple and sighed. “Alpha, I do understand. I always knew I would mate one day, whether for love or alliance but this is my pack. I will lead the Goodhaven pack. It is all I have ever believed, all I have been trained for.” She argued. “The Moon Goddess bless this pack with a True Luna. Me! She would not have done that if she wanted me to simply become a submissive wife to an Alpha.” Natalia knew this with all of her heart. True Luna’s need no Alpha in their lives to lead their pack or to bear children. True Luna’s may chose any unmated pack member to father her children with no commitment expected. Whilst this may not be the life that Natalia wished for herself, she wished even less to mate with an Alpha who would take over her pack. “The Moon Goddess blessed us with you to stop our pack from fading away. Whilst we have been thriving since your birth make no mistake, we are still a weak pack with very little children being born each blood moon.” Alpha Greythorn sat beside her and wrapped her up in his arms. “We still need an Alpha in our pack Natalia. We have led with Alpha’s for the last 200 hundred years, our pack knows no different. Your strength as a True Luna is unmatched but other packs will still try and exploit and destroy us without a strong Alpha at the head.” Natalia knew this made sense, but she still felt that her chains had just tightened considerably. Her throat closing even tighter as the acceptance of her fate flooded her.
