First Day

My shoes crunch the gravel as I step inside the college building. The smell of mud and sweat hits my nose…ew. You don’t know where I am do you? Well, let me tell you about me. Hi! I’m Lavender Cobble-ties and I just got qualified for Duke University! Yep, that luxury prestige college that’s just down the road from where I lived! I finally got accepted into this place and now, I’m going to paint my destiny! Back to the story…

I pass by the other students, stumbling my way into the headmaster’s office.

“Oh! Lavender Milly Cobble-ties, right?” She said. I hated that middle name…

“Yes, that’s me! Your Headmaster Scowl?” I asked, gesturing to shake my hand. She shook it firmly.

“Yes, indeed. Have a seat, please.” She gestured to the seat in front of the desk. I sat down with a smile. “We are happy to have you hear Ms. Cobble-ties! We hope you enjoy your years here! Overall, the curriculum is very good for you and your peers! We have clubs, part time jobs, internships, projects, sports, and more! We are excited to have you join us in these activities!”

I nod excitedly. “I know! I’m so happy to be here! I’m surprised you even acknowledged my application!”

“Of course! It was beautifully clear and written. Your school academic grades were excellent!” She holds my academic credentials in one hand and a pencil in the other, smiling ear to ear. “Now, here is the list for clubs, jobs, sports, and other activities to do here! Your dorm number is 203 on the first floor of the on-campus building.” Headmaster Scowl said, handing me my dorm key. “Your basic courses will help you decide your major or shape your path to graduate school. Later you will move to your major-specific courses. Communication with your academic advisor and professors is recommended. Work with your instructor to find internships or student organizations that fit your major.” Headmaster said plainly. “Any questions?”

“Um…no. Not at all!” I said as I walked out of the office. “Well, have a great day! Good luck! That list also shows your classes needed to go to!” Headmaster Scowl said, now focusing back on her work on her computer. I nod at her words, going out to the hallway. I sigh as I head to go to my dorm but wait…where is the campus dorm rooms located? I glance at the list in my hand, hoping for something to tell me the location! Sadly, it didn’t help so I was on my own! I looked around for someone to ask or get help from! Suddenly, I saw a guy with short brown hair, some of the strands covering his hazel eyes. He had a backpack slinger over his back. His chiseled frame looked small from where I was standing. I tapped his arm to ask for some assistance. He looks approachable I thought.

“Excuse me?” I said to him, politely. He turned around, his gaze on me. His eyes roamed around my body before he sneered “who are you?”

“I’m Lavender Cobble-ties, the new student. I was wondering if you knew where the on-campus dorm rooms are-“

“Don’t know, don’t care.” He said gruffly, scratching the back of his neck.

“You should because the pin on your backpack says you’ve been a student for a year now.” I said, pointing at the pin on his backpack.

“…it’s just outside the campus to the left…” he mumbled, narrowing his eyes at me. He walked away, his strides long.

“Oh…thanks!” I yelled at him.

He just walked away, not listening to me. Weirdo...well, at least I know where my dorm is.
