Feeling blue...no, red

I stomp my way back up to my dorm, in fury. I can't believe she did that to my new outfit! Pudding drips onto my new shoes as I walk down the hallway. Maybe Charles is right...maybe she's just jealous. And crazy. Yep, jealous and crazy. I slammed the door of my dorm and plopped down on my bed. "What's gotten into you?" Devon asked, reading a comic book. "Christina did. She dumped food on me!" I pout. "Oh...of course she did." "Yeah!!! I was walking out of the lunch hall and she slammed it on my hoodie!!!" I cry out. "Now I have to wash it 3 times and make sure the pudding smell comes off of me.” "Well, that's how she is. Dramatic and idiotic." He shrugged and sighed. "Why do you even hang with her?" I ask with a sneer. "Well, cause she's been my friend since 1st grade. Our parents are best friends so we talk often. When we aren't around our parents, she shows her obsession over me and my life." He scratched the back of his neck nervously. "I've never had the guts to tell my parents about it...they wouldn't believe me anyway..." "Oh..." I say, leaving an awkward silence between us. All you could hear is the sound of our breaths in the warm evening. Devon broke the silence as he said "My parents always believed and loved everyone else. They put on a smile even in the toughest times. That love and joy would always disappear around me, though." He bit his lip. "I only made them happy when I was with Christina. They said we were a match made in heaven, 2 peas in a pod. What a lie." Devon's eyes were cold and his gaze was unwavering, making my blood run cold. Despite that, I knew what he was talking about. The feeling of wanting validation even when you know its not in your grasp. I always felt like that with my step-father. He said he married my mom out of pity not love. He only took care of me because that was my mom’s last wish. That I grew up with a decent life even without her and dad. "I understand what that means...to want validation from someone who doesn't seem to care about you. The want to feel loved and valued...even when its not there. You strive to rise not for the money nor fame but their trust and attention." I sit down on his bed and stare at him as his eyes bore into mine. "Yeah..." He muttered. Instantly, his phone pinged with a notification. At that moment, I got up and went to the bathroom to leave him alone. Suddenly, my phone pinged from the school group chat. I sat down on my bed, instantly feeling hungry. My stomach rumbled like a thousand thunder strikes. Devon looked up at me and smirked before saying "Burritos or chinese food?" "Chinese food." I smile and nod. He pulled out his phone out his back pocket and started to order from Chang's Chinese Cuisine. "We'd have to go in person..." He mumbled, looking up at me. "C'mon." He got up from his bed and grabbed his coat. I grabbed mine as well before following him out of our dorm and out the door. The snow fell from the white sky and flew through the wind. It was beautiful to see the sight of snow in North Carolina. The sky was a mix of white and dark grey as the night crept in. The faint sound of cars could be heard as we walked down the street together. "Where is the restaurant exactly?" I asked, breathing out the cold air. "Just down there in the plaza." He replied. Suddenly, he looked at me with shock and worry in his eyes. "Lavender!" "Hm?" I tilt my head to the side. "You'll catch a cold without a scarf or hat on." "N-no I'm fi-" "Here..." He said plainly, wrapping his scarf around my neck. "You can have it." He smiled kindly and kept walking with me. I couldn't believe that he, Devon Washington, that guy that gave me cold glares in the hallway actually gave me his scarf because he believed I was cold. What a kind, sweet gesture. We arrived at the restaurant and ordered at the counter. "1 Seafood fried rice, 4 fried dumpling, 3 spring rolls, 1 shrimp fried rice, and 4 sweet and sour chicken!" Devon said, standing at the counter with me. After 10 minutes, we walked out of the restaurant with bags in our hands. ............................................................................. "So, when's your little party again?" I said, eating my seafood fried rice. I usually pick out some of the shrimp because I just like the flavor not the shrimp. "It's Charles’s party and it's at 9pm. Probably the whole class will show up, y'know?" He said, eating his spring roll. "Oh, well...good for you. You'll be with your type of group." I stuff a fried dumpling in my mouth, savoring its taste. "What do you mean my type of group?" He narrowed his eyes, dipping his spring roll in sauce. He sat criss crossed on the small sofa with me. "Y'know..." I gulped down the dumpling and continued eating my rice, "The popular kids." He chuckled. "I said everyone's gonna be there, Lavender. Not just popular kids but regular kids too." He finished up his spring roll. Suddenly, there was a knock at the door. I opened the door to see Charles wearing a black tan top and baggy green pants with a cross necklace. "Hey, krasavitsa(meaning: beauty). I need to see Devon." I waved at Charles before ushering Devon to the door. "The parties starting now, man. I just came to get you and Lavender." Charles muttered to Devon. "Lavender doesn't want to come." Devon said, squeezing past me to get out in the hallway. "Why? It's going to be the party of the century." He chuckled low in his throat and turned towards me, his gaze warm. "Well, I don't do well around crowds." I mumble as I walk back inside to eat my food. "Ok, well...we're going. Bye, krasavitsa!" Charles waved at me before walking down the hall with Devon. I waved bye and closed the door. Now, its time for my fun.
