Chapter three

The first rays of dawn filtered through the curtains, bathing the room in soft shades of gold. Prowler's lips brushed against mine with a tenderness I rarely allowed myself to experience. Every touch carried familiarity, every embrace reminding me why he had remained a constant presence throughout the centuries. His fingers intertwined with mine as silence settled comfortably between us. For once, there were no wars to fight. No kingdoms to rule. No enemies waiting beyond the estate walls. There was only the quiet rhythm of our breathing and the warmth we found in one another. Time slipped away unnoticed. Eventually, we lay side by side beneath the black silk blankets, catching our breath as the morning light slowly brightened the room. I turned onto my side and studied him. Prowler was handsome—undeniably so. Tousled blond hair framed his face, and his mismatched eyes, one emerald and one sapphire, softened as they met mine. Most people only saw his confidence. Few ever saw his vulnerability. He reached up and gently brushed a strand of crimson hair behind my ear. "Sini..." His voice was quieter than usual. "I love you." I smiled faintly. "I know." "No." He shook his head. "I don't think you do." His expression grew unexpectedly serious. "I would do anything for you." The confidence that usually defined him disappeared, replaced by something almost uncertain. "I'd give up everything if it meant spending forever by your side." My heart tightened. Without another word, he sat up and reached toward the trousers lying on the floor beside the bed. "What are you doing?" I asked. He didn't answer immediately. Instead, he retrieved a small velvet box and returned to the bed. When he opened it, a breathtaking ring rested inside. Diamonds shimmered along the band, leading to a brilliant gemstone that caught the morning light and scattered it across the room. For a long moment... I couldn't speak. Prowler took my hand carefully. His usual grin was gone. In its place was nervousness. A side of him I'd never seen before. "Sinister Von Monroe..." He drew a slow breath. "Would you do me the greatest honor of becoming my wife?" The world seemed to fall silent. Marriage. It had never been part of my future. Not once in six thousand years had I imagined myself standing beside anyone for eternity. Yet here he was... Offering exactly that. I looked down at the ring again. Accepting it would change everything. It would unite two powerful vampire bloodlines. It would strengthen my standing within the Immortal Realm. More importantly... It would mean allowing someone past the walls I'd spent centuries building around my heart. "Prowler..." My voice barely rose above a whisper. "I..." He gently placed a finger against my lips. "You don't have to answer today." A warm smile spread across his face. "Think about it." He closed the ring box and placed it carefully in my hand. "When you're ready..." He leaned forward and kissed my forehead. "...I'll ask again." Emotion tightened my chest. For the first time in centuries, I found myself wondering what life might look like if I stopped surviving... ...and finally allowed myself to live. I curled against him, resting my head on his shoulder as dawn continued to brighten the room. The ring remained clasped tightly in my hand. Sleep slowly claimed us both. But even in my dreams... One question refused to leave my mind. Was I truly ready to give my immortal heart to someone else?
