Chapter One Ashes of Memory The city of Herat was still asleep. Before dawn, the ancient streets lay silent beneath a pale sky. Wind carried fine dust through narrow alleys, brushing against old mud-brick walls that had witnessed centuries of love, war, and loss. On the rooftop of a quiet house stood a young woman. She held a faded letter so carefully that it seemed as though it could break with one careless breath. She had read it countless times, yet every word still hurt. Β«"If you ever return to Herat... don't look for me."Β» It was only one sentence. One sentence that had stolen years from her life. She looked toward the distant horizon where the first light of morning was beginning to rise. Somewhere beyond those mountains lived the answers she had spent years searching for. A cold breeze slipped through her fingers, almost carrying the letter away. She held it close to her heart. Some memories are too painful to let go. A knock echoed through the silent house. At this hour? She hurried downstairs and slowly opened the old wooden door. An elderly man stood outside. His face carried the weight of countless journeys, and his eyes held a sadness that words could never explain. Without saying much, he placed a small velvet box into her hands. "This belongs to you." She stared at him in confusion. "Who sent it?" The old man lowered his eyes before answering. "The one you've been waiting for... may never return." Before she could ask another question, he turned and disappeared into the morning mist. With trembling hands, she opened the box. Inside was a silver ring. Beneath it rested another folded letter. Her heartbeat quickened. She unfolded it. Only one line was written. Β«"The truth always costs more than love."Β» Her world stood still. What truth could be more powerful than love? And what secret had forced someone to disappear without saying goodbye? As the sun slowly rose over Herat, a new chapter of her life quietly began. She had no idea that the journey ahead would demand everything she hadβ€”her faith, her courage, and perhaps... even her heart.
