This party sucks. I looked around and saw everyone was either high or drunk. Most of the boys, even the ones with girlfriends, stared at me, so about an hour ago, I'd taken to standing against a random wall.
My beer was warm, but it didn't really matter because it wasn't like I was going to drink it anyway. The pounding bass was starting to give me a headache, and I was contemplating asking Jess to take Grace home later so I could leave.
Looking around the room, I caught sight of them with playing tonsil hockey on the dance floor and decided that I'd give it another ten minutes.
Definitely not interrupting that.
Pushing off the wall, I walked into the kitchen to throw my beer out when someone walked into me. Ugh! Gross! Dropping the red solo cup, I shook my hands out, trying to get all the beer off before realizing it was hopeless. Elbowing past Mr. Nice Guy, and making a point of stepping on his toes, I washed up to my elbows in the overflowing sink. He shoved me into the counter, making sure to raise his voice just enough so I could hear him say "Bitch." as he passed me.
Yep, I'm ready to leave. Like now. Pushing my way through the crowds, I managed to get back to the living room in one piece. Barely, I narrowly dodged three elbows to the head, and no less than five people stepped on my toes- thank God for steel toes- and was kneed in the stomach by a stray dancer.
Finally reaching the wall I had made my station, I looked around before finding an armchair that had been shoved into the corner. Standing on the cushion caused me to wobble until I stabilized by gripping the top of the window frame. I searched the dance floor for Grace's blonde hair, only to find her talking to a guy where I had been standing. Sighing, I elbowed, shoved, and ducked my way around the furniture and people to where Grace and mystery man were standing.
He seems familiar... Did I have a class with him at one point?
I stood a few feet away, watching him for a minute, trying to place where I had seen him before. The way he held himself was so... different from the other guys here, yet strikingly intimate to me. Even his looks, the way his mouth curved when he smiled at her and how he threw his head back when he laughed- there was a tug on my mind as if something were pulling me towards him.
A fit of odd jealousy began to grow as I saw Grace casually touch him- this would be the only thing about him that was odd, that I was ready to fight my best friend to get her away from him. I had never felt that intense of an urge to protect someone before.
As I continued to stare at him, I noticed him subtly scanning the room. Every 13 seconds, his eyes would sweep across the crowds, as if he were looking for something or someone. My lack of height allowed me, and my study of him, to go unnoticed. Shaking myself quickly, I racked my brain as to where I may have seen him before.
I think I had a class with him last year...
Does it really matter though? I'm sure I'll find out once I work up the balls to walk over there.
Alright, no more staring, stop being a p*****t and go meet him.
I walked up and tapped Grace on the shoulder, causing her to whip around and wrap her arms around my petite frame. She began to gush, almost inaudibly over the obnoxious music, about how she sent Jess to look for me. Breaking into her bout of word vomit, I quickly signed, Sorry. Went to go throw out my beer, and some d**k decided to spill it on me.' while continuing to watch the guy in fascination.
I definitely know him.
"Oh, babe, I'm sorry. But you just let me hug you!" Grace slapped my shoulder after she signed her reply. I stuck my tongue out at her and she rolled her eyes. Our friendship was much like that of two children's- fun and light.' 'Who's Mystery Man?' I looked at him, finally catching his steely eyes as they displayed his discomfort and frustration.
If you're waiting on her attention, you're gonna be waiting a while.
"This is Tyler Young." Grace signed and said, so she could get his attention, effectively pulling him back into the conversation. He stuck his hand out for me to shake, to which I held my palm to him, asking him to wait. It had finally connected where I knew him from- anatomy, last year. We had been partners, and I had always wondered why an Electrical Engineering major had been placed in a sophomore-level anatomy class.
He had claimed that there had been a mistake at the offices when they were making his schedule, but then he decided that he liked the class so much he would stay. It had been bothersome for me because no less than three girls in any given class would try to get his attention. He nearly sliced my hand during a lab when a brunette had called his name.
Before I made my decision to continue my annoyance with him on this person, I asked Grace quickly to clarify. Okay, one, the Tyler Young, or a Tyler Young? Two, if he's the Tyler Young, I had a class with him last year. Anatomy.' Grace laughed and signed 'The one and only.'
Ugh great. What's he want with us?
He had dropped his hand, and moved it to rub the back of his neck, clearly uncomfortable in the situation. Watching him out of the corner of my eye, I watched quietly as he continued to fidget and bite his cheek. I kept Grace talking- this time about the one thing she would go on for days about, Jess- waiting for him to leave us.
It didn't take long.
Five minutes into out ASL conversation, Tyler stormed out the front door of the house.
Suspicions confirmed. He's a d**k.
