I waited nervously in the doctor's office with DayDay beside me holding my hand for comfort. I shifted in my chair out of nervousness. "You straight" DayDay asked me and I nodded but only so he wouldn't worry about me.
"La'Naija Reynolds" the lady in a white doctor's coat called out with a clipboard in her hand.
I got up with DayDay right behind me. It was the longest walk I have ever taken. I was nervous, my hands sweated, and I blinked constantly.
We got to the back and the lady asked me a series of questions, which I answered all truthfully. She had me pee in a cup and then she left telling me a doctor should be on their way.
After waiting for 10 minutes, a doctor came back with my results. "Well it says here, you are 2 months pregnant" she said and my heart stopped, but only briefly. "Would you like a sonogram?" She asked and I nodded.
I held onto DayDay's hand as she put the Cold gel on my stomach. She took this tool and moved it around my stomach revealing that in fact I was pregnant.
"What you think they would have said?" DayDay asked once the nurse was gone to get my medicine.
I wiped away the tears that escaped. Daddy and Darren died a year ago and after the funeral, I tried to never think of them again. Every time I did, I cried. They went on a business trip, turns out it was a setup. My daddy died on site while Darren tried to put up a fight but died after he arrived to the hospital.
I ignored the question as the doctor came in with prenatal vitamins. She gave me the run down of what and what not to do.
When we was done, we walked out hand I. Hand. "Let's go to McDonald's" I suggested as we approached the car.
"Did you not listen to the Damn lady?" He questioned and I shrugged my shoulders "we gotta get it together, we got a new life with us"
I rolled my eyes as I got in the car. "I just wanted some McDonald's" I mumbled but I know he heard me because he sucked his teeth.
I see have a crazy life ahead of us, but I wouldn't want it any other way
