After Steven, Miranda, and Dave left, Kiana looked defeated. She sank into her chair and closed her eyes. “It’ll be okay,” Jack said reassuringly. She just shook her head. “Why don’t you take her home?” he suggested. “Get her some food. We’ll come up with a game plan tomorrow.” She let me guide her to her car. I rifled through her purse for keys and had us on the road to her house in minutes. Kiana didn’t speak to me the entire drive, just stared out the window.
