Chapter 9: Black FridayGustavo’s mind wouldn’t let him sleep. Flat out on his back on the ground beside the mesa, as one day became another, “Forgive me for all the bad things I done,” he said looking up to the sky. “Some fer good reason, some fer not.” He’d taken off on foot. Riding would have been quicker, but Sunday’s hoof prints were also easier to follow in the barren desert. Gustavo had left him back at Miss Rose’s with the one blanket they could call their own. They brought it along wherever their journey led them. From now on, Gustavo would go without, without a blanket and without Sunday.
