The proposal

The sound of her phone ringing woke Aya up. It was Micah, her boyfriend. ‘Hello’, she whispered sleepily. ‘Hello pretty’ he said, ‘ tell me you are ready for our date tonight’ he asked jokingly. That jolted her up from her sleep mode. She has completely forgotten about her date with Micah due to the events of the previous days.

She hurriedly rushed to the bathroom to get ready for her date. It was their second anniversary and Micah had promised to take her on a date to one of her favourite places.

She had been anticipating this date until her parents called to tell her to choose between her boyfriend and her family. She still couldn't gather the momentum to talk about this with her boyfriend and she planned to do that on this date.

Micah picked her up at 7:00pm from her hostel. Seeing him instantly got her thinking about the whole situation again. Standing before her is a smiley handsome young man who loves her so much and will do anything for her. She knows telling him about the situation will break him but she has to. Micah helped her into the car and drove off.

Throughout the journey, she is in deep thought and that affects her mood. Micah reached out and held her hands as if to reassure her everything would be fine although he had no idea what was going on.

When they got to their destination, Micah went ahead to confirm their reservation and asked her to wait in the car. A few minutes later he called and asked her to come up. As she walked into the restaurant, she saw a sign that read, “BE MY FOREVER” and there stood her man surrounded by their friends and colleagues cheering him on and romantic music playing in the background. She was stunned, confused and happy all at once. Micah walked up to her, went down on one knee and asked, ‘Will you be my wife’. She stood there, unable to speak as her fears came back to her. She needs to tell Micah about her dilemma. Time was ticking and Micah was getting worried at this point Aya suddenly burst into tears and ran out of the restaurant.
