Ember’s POV {Griffin House} Zayn was already asleep and Damian’s dinner sat cold on the table. I glanced at the clock, it was 1 am already and there was still no sign of Damian, I tried calling his phone but there was no response.I sat there on the couch as I stared at the cold dinner I had served on the table in anticipation of Damian’s arrival.Suddenly, I heard the front door creaking as though it was being opened and immediately I knew that was Damian. He stumbled into the room lacking balance and reeking of alcohol and perfume, he was definitely drunk. “Where have you been Damian?it’s already past 1am.” I asked him feeling a sense of concern for him,he was still the father of my son. “Here you go again Ember, you are always nagging me.I am not your child, get that into your thick skull.” He fired back at me. “You smell like you’ve been with someone else tonight.” I whispered. He laughed so coldly at me even though he was not so sober. “Well, maybe I wouldn’t have to go somewhere else if you weren’t so suffocating.Just get out of my way Ember, don’t provoke me tonight.” I didn’t utter a word further as I watched him walk away from me ascending the stair case. I laid there still on the couch as I thought about all the good memories I had with Damian right before we grew apart and before he turned into this distant stranger.I fell asleep relieving those memories of us in my head. {Two days after} I had my long black hair neatly packed in a pony tail as I stood in front of the mirror while admiring my beautiful red dress,I adjusted the silver necklace on my neck crested with my name as the silver bracelet on my wrist caught the glow from the lamp on my dressing table.I glanced at the clock and it was already 9pm, Damian was late.Today was supposed to matter to him,it was our seventh year anniversary but there was still no sign of him.Was I asking for too much to hope that I would get only a little of his care and attention today just like before when we were young lovers straight out of college. I stepped into the living room as I stared at the dinning table I had prepared with some scented candles and rose petals scattered all over,I sat on a chair as I watched the candles flickering and the plates of food I had served growing cold.My phone layed silent by the table, no messages,no calls. I stared at the empty chair in front of me with a sigh as deep silence filled the entire room,I picked up a plate of food but I found no appetite to eat when all of a sudden the keys jangled at the door and I felt my heart leap as I adjusted my red offshoulder dress.I had a smile on my face to welcome him but Damian entered with his black hair rough and his suit jacket hanging over his shoulder with his phone pressed to his ear. “Yes I totally understand.” He said, his voice sharp and vibrant.”You must get the pack ready and then we’ll know the next line of action to take.” “ “Damian…” I called out to him as my warm smile faded. He held up his index finger as he motioned for me to be silent as he continued with his conversation.”Yes Nelson, give me some time to decide.”I was motionless as the call went on.Finally,he ended the conversation, pocketing his cell phone. “What is it?” he asked distracted by the ding! Of an incoming message. “It’s our anniversary,I made dinner and I thought you and I could spend some time together today.” I said softly as I waited for his response. “Sorry things are chaotic with the pack right now and my attention is needed,I have another meeting now and we can do whatever this is someother time.” “But it’s just one night Damian, one night to remember us.” His jaws tightened in anger and his green eyes turned red as I spoke. “Ember can you stop, you know how important this is to me.I am alpha of Silver-moon pack and the pack does not stop needing me because you want to celebrate an anniversary.” My throat thickened with unshed tears as I lashed out at him. “What about me,Damian? Don’t I need you too? I asked him because I didn’t plan to have a marriage without love and care.I desired his attention too. “Stop this drama!” He growled at me raking his hands through his thick black hair. “I can’t deal with this right now,I have a meeting to attend to.” He turned towards the office working space we had in the house jamming the door behind himself. My hands trembled as I blew out the candles watching the smoke curling and fading into the air.Tears blurred my vision as I thought about what had just happened but as I gathered the plates my eyes caught something that stopped me cold,Damian’s suit jacket left on the chair.Curiously, I dipped my hand into the pocket pulling out a receipt. It was from Crystal hotel, a five star hotel just across Metro city. The receipt showed it was for tonight, it read ‘dinner for two tonight’ my hands trembled, so Damian wasn’t working late and he didn’t have any meeting going on, he just didn’t want to spend tonight with me but he preferred to spend it with someone else.My heart clenched as the feeling of anger overwhelmed me.He was never working late. I could hear Damian's muffled sounds from the office as he spoke into his phone. My grip tightened over the receipt as my stomach twisted in anger. Who was he with tonight? Everything in me wanted to know and worst still, why didn’t he tell me he was with someone? The walls seemed to close in on me as I felt the air around me thick with betrayal. My heart beat hightened as I turned towards the office door debating on whether or not to confront him about it or let the growing silence speak between us.But as I stepped further approaching the office door, Damian’s voice dropped low and it was now very tender “Yes dear, tonight was so amazing and perfect with you.I would love to see you again but please lets keep this between us.” Everything in me shattered right at that moment.
