FREYA
Will you be my Luna?
Alpha Ronon's words echoed in my head.
Within just a couple of days he had slept with me, accepted me as his mate and now wanted me to be his wife!
This had to be some kind of trick or practical joke, but I couldn't think of a convincing reason why he would want to play a practical joke on me.
But if it was too good to be true, then it probably wasn't true.
"A date?"
Alpha Ronon's quiet voice interrupted my thoughts.
Just how long had I been sitting there, staring at him?
"Go on a date with me first," he repeated. "You don't have to give me an answer right now if you don't want to. Seven p.m. tomorrow. Nothing flashy or sophisticated. You in?"
In a semi-daze, I nodded. Though how I could get off work by that time was beyond me. I didn't know I was biting my lip until his thumb teased my lip out from between my teeth.
His touch was electric, and left me wanting more. Ever so gently, his thumb stroked my cheek.
"We've met before last night, you know," he said.
"I don't remember that."
He smiled. "I know you can't remember. I came to the bar. You were so busy serving customers that you didn't notice you had spilled wine on me when you bumped into me."
"I'm so sorry, Alpha," I murmured, bowing my head.
He raised up my chin. "Are you kidding? Don't be sorry. That's what made me notice you for the first time. Yesterday, I came by the bar to have a few drinks and maybe talk to you. You weren't there. Imagine my surprise when I spotted you going into the club on the next street. I tried to talk myself out of following you, but I did, found you too drunk to talk and then... the night happened."
I felt a flush stain my cheeks.
He chuckled. "You're really pretty when you blush. Tell me all about yourself, Freya."
I did. When I mentioned when I was born, he stopped me.
"Wait. Isn't that tomorrow?" he said.
"Yes?"
"Perfect. I'll make our date extra special then to celebrate your birthday."
That night we talked about everything and nothing. Alpha Ronon was so charming and easy to talk to that I didn't notice time floating by like a dream.
A dream.
That is what it felt like when he kissed me goodnight in his car after he had driven me home.
"I'll see you tomorrow, Freya," he said, his tone soft and loaded with promises.
I watched him drive away. Then it was back to reality for me as I walked quietly to the house, half expecting Greta or Nina to start with the verbal torture.
The house was quiet. From upstairs, I could hear Greta's light snoring. They were asleep. I felt my shoulders sag in relief.
Tonight, I had a break. I was asleep as soon as my head touched the pillow. That night, I had dreams of dancing with this handsome, dark-eyed man who looked so much like Alpha Ronon.
The next morning, I had almost convinced myself that the thing with Alpha Roman hadn't happened. Still, at some minutes before seven, I put on my best dress-which wasn't much- and waited outside the bar for the Alpha.
The manager hadn't made a fuss about letting me off at seven. Maybe the Alpha had spoken to him.
I kept checking my watch minutes after minute as the seconds ticked past. What if he didn't come? What if-
The Alpha's car came into view. It was 7 on the dot. I kept blinking as he handed me inside the car which he had insisted on opening for me. I waited for him to fade away like a mirage.
He was there, real and solid. He held my hand as he drove. I didn't pull away. I didn't want to.
The contact made me realize this was real, this was actually happening.
"Where do you think we're going?" he asked me as he guided the car expertly through the late evening traffic.
"A restaurant?" I guessed.
A smile teased his lips. I felt an ache in my chest. How could a man be so breathtakingly beautiful?
"No," he said. "Guess again."
"The cave?"
A gentle squeeze of my hand told me I was right.
Alpha Ronon didn't let go of my hand not once during the walk to the cave, even though walking side by side slowed us down. He took me along another route. Finally, we broke through the trees.
I stopped. And stared.
Tiny, twinkling lights had been artistically draped all around the trees, the grasses, rocks and even the mouth of the cave. In the dark, they looked like a million tiny stars.
A path dotted with candles and flower petals led to the entrance of the cave. I turned to find the Alpha watching me carefully.
"You like it?" he asked.
I tried to swallow past a lump in my throat. I couldn't at first.
"Oh I love it," I finally managed to whisper.
He smiled and it was like the sun broke through the crowds. I looked away because if I didn't, I wouldn't be able to stop myself from throwing myself into his arms. My wolf certainly wanted to.
"When did you do all this?" I asked.
"Yesterday, I had someone set it up. Wanted to make it special for you." I felt his lips press against my knuckles. "Happy birthday, Freya." He gently tugged on my arm. "Come on, let's walk."
We picked our way through to the other side of the cave to the river. More pretty lights were draped over every available tree on the river bank.
We talked as we walked. It was close on an hour later that we returned to the cave. He had told me of some food he had waiting there. I was starving. But there was just something about the cave that made me starve in another kind of way.
My wolf felt it. The Alpha felt it too.
He stopped talking. His eyes darkened with desire. He slipped his arm around my waist.
This time I kissed him. Once I started, I couldn't stop. The taste of him was like an addictive drug. Somehow he got hold of the picnic mat and placed it under me.
I lay on the floor, looking up at the stars as he trailed kisses down my cheek, my neck, my breasts. He palmed them, stared at them as if there were the most beautiful things in the world.
He made me feel beautiful, loved.
I closed my eyes, surrended to the sensations his touch called up. And when he sheathed himself inside me, I was ready.
*****
We lay side by side, naked, staring up at the moon. I didn't know how much time had passed. Time seemed different out here.
I just concentrated on the feel of Alpha Ronon's finger drawing eights in the cleft between my breasts. I didn't know it was possible to be this happy. My heart couldn't possibly contain it all.
"Freya." The Alpha's voice was soft and kind. I turned on my side and smiled at him. "I want you to come to the palace ball."
"You mean you want to meet in public?" I asked.
I held my breath, waited for the answer.
He smiled my favourite lopsided smile. "Of course I do. Look pretty for me because right in front of everyone, I'm going to officially declare you as my mate."
