Chapter one:Raining

1491 Words
I sat on the bench by the roadside, soaked from the heavy rain. My boss had just fired me for no reason, and my eyes burned from crying too much. It had taken me months to get that job, only to lose it in a single day. I let out a frustrated sigh, running my fingers roughly through my wet hair as the cold breeze brushed against my skin. I sighed quietly and checked the time. It was already past 4 p.m., and I hadn’t even brought an umbrella. How much worse could my day get? I had already promised Aurora we’d go on a shopping spree together. She would be seriously pissed if I didn’t show up. Just as I was debating whether I should call her, I heard my name. I turned around and smiled. Of course. Here comes the devil. I ran toward the car and quickly got in. ‘Hey, b***h,’ Aurora called out playfully. ‘How did you know I was stranded?’ I asked, faking a smile. ‘Oh please, you really think I was going to leave you out here?’ Aurora smirked. ‘The moment the rain started, I drove straight here. I knew you’d try to skip out on shopping, honey.’ We both laughed as she drove off. Unlike Aurora, whose family was insanely wealthy, mine wasn’t doing so well. I had to work to help support my dad. Thanks to Aurora, I was able to secure a job at one of the best restaurants in Evernight. Even though I only worked as a supervisor because of my low status, I was still grateful for it. Now I had lost the same job Aurora helped me get. I didn’t know if telling her was a good idea. Knowing Aurora, she would completely lose it, and I didn’t want her getting into trouble with her dad because of me. So, I decided not to tell her. ‘You good?’ Aurora asked, snapping me out of my thoughts. I nodded and smiled at her. Aurora had been my best friend since I was seven. I met her the same day I lost my mom at the hospital. ‘Here,’ Aurora said, handing me a bag of potato chips — my favorite. I grabbed it with a smile. ‘Thanks, baby.’ ‘By the way,’ I said while munching on the chips, ‘why are you driving by yourself today? And your dad actually allowed you?’ Aurora grinned mischievously. ‘I snuck out.’ ‘What?!’ I shouted in surprise. ‘Chill, girl,’ Aurora laughed. ‘Don’t tell me to chill, Rora. Your dad is going to kill me if he finds out you snuck out with me. You know how he can be. Man, your dad is terrifying,’ I said. Aurora burst into laughter again. ‘We won’t be late, I promise,’ she said once she finally calmed down. ‘Girl, you’ll be the end of me,’ I chuckled.” ………….. Unlike the outside world , Velmora was like heaven itself. A city drenched in luxury, power, and status. The rich ruled without limits, and the weak learned quickly to stay silent. Velmora wasn’t a place where rules mattered. Power was the only law people obeyed. Behind its glittering lights and breathtaking streets hid a city soaked in bloodshed — a place where danger lurked beneath every smile, and secrets were buried deeper than graves.” Everybody was present in the hall, including the Six Elders, Kael, and King Theron himself. Yet, no one said a word — not even the king. After a long moment of silence, Elder Malachi finally spoke. ‘Permission to speak, Your Majesty,’ he said with a slight bow. ‘How much longer are we expected to wait for Grand Prince Draven?’ Then Elder Hadrian spoke up as well. ‘Yes, my king. We have been here for six hours already, yet Prince Draven still hasn’t shown himself.’ ‘We should proceed with the meeting without him,’ Elder Lazarus added. ‘I doubt he plans on coming, Your Majesty.’ Kael, who had remained quiet the entire time, finally turned toward his father. ‘Father, Elder Lazarus is right. We should continue the meeting without him,’ Kael said, malice evident in his voice. ‘Who does he think he is, keeping everyone waiting like this?’ The rest of the elders nodded in agreement. the doors of the hall suddenly opened and Draven walked in interrupting them, his face and hands drenched in fresh blood. The entire hall fell silent. Everyone turned to look at him in shock, their eyes fixed on the blood covering him. “You summoned me, Father,” Draven said casually, as though nothing was wrong. “Make it quick. As you can see… I’m a little busy.” He glanced down at the blood on his hands with a faint smirk. King Theron slumped weakly into his chair, looking exhausted. “You’re insane,” Kael snapped,” how could you come here soaked in blood like this? Father, say something,” Kael added, turning sharply toward the king. But King Theron remained silent on his throne, his expression unreadable as his eyes stayed fixed on Draven. Ignoring Kael’s question, Draven slowly took off his black gloves, tossing them carelessly onto the marble floor. The dark leather landed with a soft thud, stained heavily with fresh blood. A wave of unease spread across the hall. Some of the guards instinctively stepped back while the elders exchanged nervous glances. Draven rolled his sleeves slightly, completely unbothered by the horrified stares fixed on him. Kael clenched his fists. “Draven, I’m talking to you.” Still, Draven ignored him. Instead, he walked past the guards toward the long council table, poured himself a glass of blood wine, and took a slow sip. Then he finally spoke without looking at anyone.“They were weak.” And “Is there a rule that says I can’t kill?” He added Kael’s anger snapped instantly. “Weak? Those were royal guards!” Draven placed the wine glass down gently before turning his cold gaze toward him. And?” Draven asked without a shred of remorse. The hall instantly turned tense. Elder Malachi gripped his staff tightly before finally speaking up. “Your Majesty, this is unacceptable and even more reason why Grand Prince Draven cannot become king.” A dark chuckle escaped Draven’s lips. “Careful, old man,” he said lazily, his silver eyes gleaming dangerously. “If I wanted the throne, I would’ve buried my father alongside the rest of you old idiots.” Do not speak to the king in such a manner.?” Lazarus snapped, clearly irritated by Draven’s behavior. Draven slowly turned his gaze toward him, his eyes dark and unreadable. “And who gave you permission to raise your voice while I’m speaking?” he asked coldly. Lazarus swallowed fearfully Careful, Lazarus… don’t test my patience too much.” A faint smile appeared on his lips. “I’m actually in a very good mood today,” Draven added, the smile never reaching his eyes. Then Draven leaned back slightly, completely relaxed despite the fear spreading through the room. “But seeing how badly you all want to keep me away from the throne…” he smirked, “…you’re really making me want to become the future king.” The elders gasped at his words. Of course, they knew he could do it. They were vampires — creatures humans considered immortal nightmares — but even they feared Draven. Because Draven was not normal. He was a monster even among monsters. If he truly wished it, he could personally put every single one of them into their coffins for an eternal sleep, and none of them doubted that terrifying truth. Enough.” King Theron, who had been quiet the entire time, finally spoke. Draven rolled his eyes . Kael clenched his fists so tightly his nails dug into his palms. If looks could kill, Draven would have already been six feet underground. But despite his anger, Kael dared not say another word. “Son, drop those legs and fix your arrogance,” the king said coldly, staring at Draven’s boots resting carelessly on top of the council table. Draven merely clicked his tongue. Just then, the massive doors of the hall opened again. Nikolai walked in calmly, dressed in black from head to toe. He bowed respectfully toward the king and elders before leaning closer to whisper something into Draven’s ear. For the first time since entering the hall, Draven’s expression changed slightly. A faint irritation crossed his face. Then, reluctantly, he dropped his legs from the table and stood up. “Continue without me,” he said casually to King Theron before turning toward the exit. “Son, come back here,” the king ordered sharply. But Draven didn’t stop. He didn’t even bother turning around. As he walked out
