Chapter 2: Amaris' Change

Liviana's POV *knock knock "Come in" I said and the door opened then Ellie came in rubbing her eyes. "Hi, Livi" she said softly and approached me. I smiled and put her in my lap. She snuggled to me hugging me. She must've just woken up from her nap earlier. I looked at the person by the door. "How's school?" I asked. "Boring" he said chuckling. "The only thing I look forward to is football practice. Well, not until Howl acts like a total a**" he complained. I covered Ellie's ears. "Watch your language, El" I reminded him. "Sorry" he chuckled. El is Ellie's brother. He's a year younger than I am and Ellie is only 3 years old. They are both Edmond and Theresa's children. "We both know he's always been like that" I said. He nodded in agreement. "Alpha Trevor isn't like that though" he said. I agreed. Tyler Howl is the son of the Sin Pack. He's bound to be the next Alpha when he turns 20 which is the usual age for being an Alpha. Yes, I know I'm not 20 yet. "How about you? How has school been?" he asked. "The usual except of the new guys" I said. "Oh I think I've heard about them from the others. They said they were extremely intimidating and scary and gave off a really strong scent and aura" he said. I nodded in agreement. "I doubt they're scarier than you when you're in your Alpha mode though" he said chuckling. I rolled my eyes. I've been with El almost all my life and he's seen a lot of my sides. A lot more than Blake and Katie. "You're turning 18 tomorrow" he reminded. "It's not a big deal" I said. It's actually a really big deal. "Yeah, right" he said chuckling. I frowned. "By the way, you do realize you'll be able to find your mate now, right?" he said. I cringed at the thought. "I don't need one" I said. I know very well that once I turn 18, I'll be able to sense my mate if I ever found them. "So you're just going to keep your fake scent on wherever you are?" he said. The fake scent he was pertaining to was the one I wore at school, when I go out and when there are visitors. It was a scent specialized to hide my own and I've been using it for as long as I can remember. I didn't exactly know why I had to use it but I didn't bother ask my father. The only ones who know of my true scent are the pack leaders, their family who lives in the pack house and the pack warriors. "Your mate won't be able to find you, you know" he said. "I don't care. I said I don't need one" I told him. He sighed. "What if you find your mate then and your mate doesn't recognize you?" he kept nagging. "I'm sure I won't find them" I lied. "Okay, Alpha" he said with a sigh. The last thing I want is someone to distract me from the pack. The mate bond is crucial or so I've been taught but it doesn't really make sense to me. Or atleast not much. A lot of things hasn't made sense to me since I was little. I never knew my mother. My father left almost 2 years ago and hasn't come back yet. I became the acting Alpha since then and as far as I know in our culture, Alphas are men. I don't claim the position of Alpha fully yet. I'm still hoping and praying to the Goddess of my father's return and give him back his title. Until then, I will be Crescent Moon's Alpha. We had dinner together in the dining room and I went straight to my room after the meal. I immediately fell asleep. The next thing I know, I'm in a familiar forest and I smiled when I saw my wolf. "Amaris" I called her. She turned to me and gracefully approached me as I caressed her cream colored fur and stared at her blue eyes. "You'll be 18 soon, Liviana" she reminded me through mind link. "Don't even get me started on that topic, Amaris" I said. "We'll be able to find our mate" she said. "We don't need one" I told her. "Yes, we do" she replied and whined. "I need to focus on the pack. My father hasn't come back yet, remember?" I reminded her. Amaris lowered her head upset. I'm sure she wanted to complain but chose not to. She's been anticipating to have a mate like any other wolf. Also, the return of my father must be a factor that worries her too. But I shall hold on to his promise of coming back. I am his daughter and I trust him more than anyone in the world. I woke up. I was all hot and sweaty. I looked at my bedside table and saw that it was almost 12am. My body was burning up. Do I have a fever? I stood up and opened the balcony door to let some air in and turned the AC to the highest setting. Why is it so fcking hot? I looked at the clock on my bedside table and once it changed to 12am, I screamed at the sudden burning pain that traveled through my body. Fck! It was like I was being burned alive. I fell on my bed and squirmed and rolled in pain on the floor. I screamed more as it got worse. What the hell is happening? The door burst open and Edmond came in and rushed to me with a worried and frantic look. "L-livi..." he said holding me as I squirm in pain. "I-it h-hurts" I said as a tear fell from my eye and another scream escaped my mouth. Then I felt myself shifting so I pushed Edmond away. I shifted to my wolf and I immediately felt the pain stop and subside. I panted. Edmond looked at me in shock. His expression was both confused, shocked and terrified. "Y-your wolf" he muttered. What about my wolf? He's seen it many times. I walked to the mirror in my room and even I froze at the reflection that stared back at me. This is not my wolf. Amaris had cream colored matted fur, blue eyes and a smaller physique than this one. The wolf I'm seeing right now has a white shiny fur, golden eyes and a physique 3 times larger than Amaris. "It's me, Liviana. It's Amaris" I heard a voice in my head. "Amaris? What happened? Why do you...look so different?" I replied to her confused. "I don't know either. After that painful fit, I just...changed" she explained. I turned to look at Edmond again. "I'm going for a run. Don't follow me" I mind linked him. He nodded nervously and I jumped out of the balcony. I ran and ran until I reached the lake. I walked to the platform and stared at the water confused. I don't think this is a common change when I turn 18. Amaris became totally unrecognizable. Or atleast I've never heard about it before. Then a alluring smell invaded my nose. *sniff sniff "It's mate! Mate is near!" Amaris said. My eyes widened. Oh no. No. I ran. "I'm sorry, Amaris. We can't right now" I told her. "No! No, Liviana! Please! It's mate!" Amaris begged. "Some other time. Just not today. I'm sorry. I can't yet" I felt guilty but I can't. All of this is already confusing enough. Finding my mate so soon is not what I need. "No! Liviana!" she whimpered. "I'm sorry" I finally said. I ran and ran until I could no longer smell it. I was exhausted and confused. I took a cold dip in the tub to try and get rid of the fatigue and then dressed up to go back to bed like nothing happened.
