Chapter 12“All stop, Mr. Neary”
Prior to leaving Alexandra Rose yet again, Ross and Drake held a thirty-minute conference with George Gideon and Patrick Neary. At Gideon's insistence, it had been agreed to bring his First Officer in on the bogus quarantine plan. Gideon felt it wise to have his most trusted officer aware of exactly what was happening and have him ready and able to help in case of any unrest, not specifically from the passengers, but from any truculent crew members. Neary had a closer relationship with the crew than the captain and would thus find it easier to cope with any mild unrest below decks.
