The joke was on me. I should have known better.
Life never made any pleasant surprises for me, and just why did I think that this time would be different?
Onyx changed. Something inside her was fundamentally different now, and I couldn't explain it no matter how hard I tried.
But it was there. New, mesmerising, enticing, and so… familiar.
I couldn't explain it, but I was drawn to her.
In the long run, nothing changed. She still wasn't my mate. And yet… I couldn't stop thinking about her. Even my wolf wanted her now, which spoke volumes. The attraction was undeniable.
It was bizarre and absolutely unexplainable, but here we were, following her around as if we had nothing better to do.
