Ellia POV
The moment Cassien pushed us to the floor—chaos ensued. Bullets broke through the glass window, bartering vases, chairs, everythung in sight.
“What’s happening?!” My voice tore out from my lungs.
Gunfire?!
Here?!
I turned to Aunt Hilda, tears rolling down her eyes as well. She was muttering something to herself.
“T-they know already..”she wrapped hee arms around her chest, her pupils dilated.
“We’re too late..”
Her skin had turned pale…like she had seen death itself.
“Aunt Hilda..you’re scaring me..”
The gunfire ceased for a couple seconds. And then, the second I let myself feel we were out of the danger zone. The bullets resumed again.
“Enough of this..” Cassien growled beside me. His voice had changed entirely, becoming deeper.
Then I saw his eyes turned into a pure gold color—then limp by limp, joint by joint…his body disfigured and then refigured.
Standing in front of us now… wasnt just a werewolf. It was an Alpha wolf.
“Arghh!!” His roar shook the walls of the house. And then, the next second, he was out of the house…it happened in a mere whoosh of the wind.
The gunfire stopped after a while, but my heart kept racing…
What the hell was happening outside? Did he kill them, or did they–
The sharp noise of the door shaking profusely made my heart jump.
The knob shook again. This time, we peeped through from a slanted table, our eyes locked on the door….
Finally, the doors slammed wide open—Cassien stepped inside this time, he was in his human form, but his hands…
…they were covered in so much blood.
Where they his? Or did he?
“It’s safe now..” he said finally.
“What happened?” I asked carefully, taking one step out then another.
“Are they—“
“Dead? Yes.” Cassien cut in and finished the sentence for me.
“Around six of them. You can thank me later..”
Dead? He killed them….
I didn’t know what to feel about that. I mean, I knew it was a situation of killed or be killed…but still–
“Who were they?” I asked, my throat dry.
“I didn’t get it..but after the interrogation I did with one before his untimely demise..”
Then his next words sent chills down my spine. “..I found out they weren’t after your aunt.”
His golden eyes locked onto mine. “They came for you.”
Me?!
A heavy silence followed right after that—
I was the tagret…again!
First poisoned at the werewolf world, now barely an hour here and a shooting at my house…
What the hell was happening?!
I slowly turned to Aunt Hilda…she was crying almost uncontrollably now…she looked terrified. And it felt more than just the gunshots.
She knew something…something more than this.
My voice came out ice-cold.
“Aunt Hilda.” She froze, then slowly, turned to face me.
I stepped toward her. “No more lies this time…tell me…
..who wants me dead?”
Tears streamed down her face.
Then she whispered words that shattered my world again.
“A certain assasin group… they existed even before your parents died.”
I stopped breathing for a couple of seconds.
What?
She sobbed. “Your mother knew they were coming..not just for them..she knew they’ll come for you to.”
My pulse was racing so fast and so loud right now.
No.
No way.
“She left something for you.”
Everything inside me went still.
“What? Left what?”
She was trying and failing to hold back the tears now. “I don’t know…it was only meant for you to see.”
A couple of days ago, my biggest worries were avoiding the bullies and not embarrassing myself in front of Ethan. Now a literal Alpha werewolf was in my room and that wasn’t even the thing that scared me the most…
Slowly, I faced Aunt Hilda again—
“Where is it?”
“At the office in her company…”she turned to her bag, searching for something.
Then—
“Here..” she placed a locket in my palms. “You’ll need it to open the safe.”
So this was it…
It was happening. I was finally going to enter the empire I didn’t even know belonged to me.
I took in a slow deep breath. Then— “let’s go..”All it took was a phone call from Aunt Hilda and the next five minutes a black SUV was parked outside the house waiting for me.
When I stepped out with Cassien, one of the men stepped out and opened the door for me.
“Ms. Estrada..”
Oh… I could get used to this…
The drive happened quickly and we were there soon after.
I had seen pictures of Haleon Global my entire life, how could I not.. it’s the biggest in the city.
I’ve read news articles, seen the news about them, read magazines and all of it.
But somehow I didn’t know that my mother was the founder of this.
I’ve seen enough posters and magazines to know exactly how large the company was.
But pictures had done a terrible job preparing me for the real thing.
I stared up at the skyscraper and forgot how to breathe.
The Haleon Global logo was fixed high and proud near the top of the building.
A silver H covered in a circular crest.
Thus was what real power felt like that… this was truly an empire.
And it was hers…
No.
That thought hit differently now.
This was supposed to be mine.
My stomach twisted.
“You’ve stopped walking, what’s wrong?”
Cassien’s voice came from beside me.
I shot him a glare. “I’m aware I have and no! I’m fine.” My tone wa sharp.
He glanced at the building, then back at me.
“If you’re afraid, say so.”
I nearly choked at his words, because frankly he was spot on.
“Afraid?”
“Yes.”
I folded my arms, trying to mask it.
“I’m not afraid.”
“Really?” He said, lifting up a brow..“You smell nervous.”
I froze for a second. Smell nervous? What the—
Then, I narrowed my eyes. “That is creepy.”
“Perhaps, but it’s true….”
God.
Insufferable.
I turned and walked toward the entrance before he could say anything else.
Security recognized me instantly as they straightened on sight. “Ms.Estrada..welcome.”
The sudden formality still felt weird for me, but I smiled and walked past.
When I stepped in, the receptionist nearly dropped her tablet in sight of me.
Her eyes widened.
“Miss Estrada?”
And just like that…the entire lobby paused.
People stopped moving and talking…
Then–
The murmurs and whispers spread like wildfire.
She’s here.
She’s back.
But one hit me hard.
‘THE HEIR HAS ARRIVED’
