Ellia POV
My eyes fluttered open to a room… the same room I woke up in this morning.
The first thing that really caught my attention was the bitter taste in my mouth…
What did I eat?
I didn’t think too much into it as I pushed my legs over the bed to the floor with a soft groan, but a hard pain to my forehead almost sent me back to the bed…
The soft morning light poured through the window. It was another morning already?
That meant I spent my whole day here… in a world I didn’t even know existed.
Well, that’s a story to tell…
“You’re awake.”
“ahh!!” A voice made my heart literally fly out of my chest. I jumped with both feet at once.
Then, I turned slowly to see..him. Cassien.
“Why are you in my room?” I stepped foward, my tone sharp.
His expression didn’t even change despite the little threatrics I showed.
“You were unconscious for 12 hours..”
12 hours? That’s a long time.
But still—
“..that doesn’t answer the question. Why are ..you…here?”
“Because I can be.” He said, his tone cold.
I glared hard at him…
Gosh, he really was impossible.
Then something clicked.
The bitter taste..the headache, over sleeping which wasn’t like me.
“What happened?” I asked Cassien, not taking my eyes off him.
For a second, he wanted to lie, or avoid the question, but he knew very well that I wasn’t going to buy whatever he came up with.
Cassien sighed, then—
“Someone poisoned you.”
My blood ran cold.
“What?”
I stared at him in shock. “I was poisoned?”
“Yes.”
I blinked, then glanced around both my arms and around my whole body.
“But… I’m alive and I look fine.., don’t I?”
“That is what concerns me.”
That was not the response I expected.
“What does that mean?”
His eyes locked onto mine then— “The poison should have killed you.”
A heavy silence followed right after he said that—
Killed me?
The words struggled to register in my head.
Someone had tried to murder me.
“W-why?”
“I don’t know.” Cassien stepped foward to the door. “But it was wolfsbane mixed with nightshade.”
The names meant little to me. I didn’t know anything about them. “So?”
“So,” he said flatly, “either one is lethal to wolves in thier liquid form..
..but together, it should have killed you in an instant.”
My pulse picked up again… my heart pounding loudly in my chest.
“But it didn’t…why?”
Cassien’s expression hardened. “I don’t know.”
That scared me more than anything.
Cassien always seemed like the kind of man who had answers.
If even he didn’t understand this—
How bad was things?
Before I could ask more, he spoke.
“You’re leaving.”
Leaving?!
“What?”
“You’re returning to the human world.”
I was sure I misheard, so I asked again, my voice weak.
“You mean I’m going home?”
“Yes.”
Hope surged up through me in a flash—.
I didn’t even realize when I jumped up and pumped the air. “When?”
“Very soon….”
“Yes!” I took a step too quick when a sudden dizziness hit me.
I lost my footing, already dropping tp the floor. But Cassien moved instantly.
His hand went right under my waist as he sweeped me up and under.
Gosh…he was so close. Too close.
Heat began began to crawl up my spine—
Our eyes stayed locked on each other…the tension in the room spiked up.
For one suspended second, neither of us moved.
Then he released me quickly and stepped to the door.
For a while, there was an awkward silence in the room. Then, I cleared my throat and spoke.
“Why are you sending me back?”
“You have unfinished business there I believe.”
I did actually…
The company. My mothers company thag I was supposed to check in at.
Everything there was waiting for me.
Cassien continued.
“You will settle urgent matters, but you will rerun befoee moonrise.”
My stomach dropped.
Trial Two.
Right.
I almost forgot.
I gave a bitter laugh.
“So I get a temporary release before coming back for another attempt at being murdered.”
His gaze returned to mine. “You’ll have protection.”
I folded my arms. “Protection? You mean..you?”
He gave a small pause.
Then—
“Yes.”
I stared at him, trying to understand if he was serious or not.
And God help me he was…
No.
Absolutely not.
“No. No way!”
“No?”
“You are not coming with me.” I turned my back to him—
“I am.”
“I say you’re not coming with me. I don’t want you to.”
His expression remained so infuriatingly calm.
“I wasn’t asking and I don’t need your permission.” His tone was cold and left no room for argument.
Then, he turned and walked to the door.
“Get ready. We leave in 30 minutes..”
With that, he turned and left—
The transmission to the human world was surreal. Nothing I’ve ever seen before.
One second I was surrounded by the trees and large mountains of the werewolf world, and the next…I was back in the world I was used to.
The cars, the buildings, human beings passing by—that fresh air.
Gosh, it felt good to be back.
“Oh.. I need to see Lena and tell her—“
I was about to step away, when I felt a strong hand pull me right back.
Cassien then faced me to him, his eyes were dead serious now. “Two rules while we’re here…
We do only the important things and we’re gone. And secondly, no one and I mean, absolutely no one should know about us…”
The sound of his tone was enough for me to know that he wasn’t playing around with this.
Finally, I sighed, then nodded. “Okay..”
We reached my house. First thing, was to see Aunt Hilda.
I was about to enter, when Cassien and the two wolves with him stepped foward.
I snapped my head to him. “No…they wait her..just you can enter.”
“I—“
“They’re not coming in with me.” I shot him a deadly glare.
Cassien wanted to argue, but finally..he didn’t.
I pushed the door open and ran inside.
“Aunt Hilda!”
I yelled out her name and after a few seconds, I heard footsoes running down the steps.
Then—
She appeared and the moment she did, her eyes widened.
“Ellia!”
She rushed forward and crushed me in a hug.
Relief broke something inside me.
“Auntie…”
The tears were tethering in my eyes now…all the emotions were burning up.
It was just a day. But in that period, I truly learnt now much I miss the normal, boring life I had with her.
Then—
I noticed it.
They were suitcases, packed leathers..bags all of it..
My body stiffened.
Why was she packed?
I slowly pulled away.
“Auntie…”
“What is this?” I pointed to the bags…and when she followed my eyes, her eyes went pale.
For a long while, it was silence—
She looked away.
No.
No no no.
“You were leaving?”
Her eyes filled with tears now.. “It’s not what you think.”
“Then explain it! Explain something that’ll make this make sense..”
“I—I–“
Her voice cracked, the emotions on a high. “I was trying to protect you.”
“By running away?”
“No.”
“Then what?”
She looked terrified now..truly. Not even guilty, just scared shitless.
Of what? Or who..?
Before she could answer—
Cassien stiffened behind me. I could sense the sudden change in him.
“What?”
He ignored me first, then, his gaze locked on the window.
“Down! Everyone!”
And just like that–chaos exploded…
Cassien lunged at me, pushing both myself and Aunt Hilda to the floor.
The window shattered completely then—
And bullets rained through it.
