Leah sat frozen, gripping her phone so tightly her knuckles turned white. Who the hell was that?
A warning. From someone who knew her name.
She took a deep breath, pushing the unease aside. This wasn’t the time to panic. She had enemies—both in business and in her past—but she wasn’t about to let fear cloud her judgment.
Instead of going home, she drove to the only place that made sense—Nico’s office.
If this had anything to do with his deal, she needed answers.
At Nico’s Office
The floor was mostly empty when she arrived. It was late, and only a few people were still working.
She found Nico in his office, casually leaning back in his chair, reviewing documents on his laptop.
He looked up when she entered. “Leah?” His brows lifted slightly in amusement. “Couldn’t stay away?”
She shut the door behind her. “Cut the crap. I got a call.”
His smirk faded. “What kind of call?”
She crossed her arms. “A warning. Someone told me to be careful. No name, no details.”
Nico’s jaw tightened, his easy demeanor slipping. “And you think this is about me?”
“You made a bold move today,” she said sharply. “I wouldn’t be surprised if someone wanted to send a message.”
He stood, closing the distance between them. “Leah, if someone’s threatening you, that’s not business—that’s personal.”
She hated the concern in his voice. She didn’t need him worrying about her.
“I can handle myself.”
Nico exhaled, studying her face. “I know you can.” Then, softer, “But you don’t have to do it alone.”
For a moment, she almost let herself believe him.
Almost.
Then she took a step back, regaining her composure. She wasn’t here for comfort. She was here for answers.
“Just watch your back, Nico,” she said, turning toward the door. “Because if this is connected to you, I won’t be the only one in danger.”
She left without another word, but the uneasy feeling stayed with her.
Something was coming.
And this time, she wasn’t sure she was ready for it.
