Chapter 5 BLAKE'S POV “Ugh, I am so tired” I groaned out, stretching my stiff and aching bones. “We are almost done” someone called from behind the bushes. I turned towards the direction of the voice, spotting my friend walking over, his shirt just as soaked as mine. “Hey man” Jake greeted “You are late” He scoffed, “No I am not, I have been clearing the other side for the past 30 minutes, I only just caught your scent” he explained pointing at the far edge of Area D. You might be wondering what we are doing in this hot– skin scorching sun, well let me welcome you to my everyday life. I’m an errand boy. I work for the Pack, you need things done? I am there to offer my service, some people pay–most don't. Today's job happens to be the Alpha’s order which means, food on our table and a pay. Myself and four others, Jake included were instructed to clear up the land in Area D, rumour has it that the Alpha is planning on building another nursery home, too many pups being born lately….and even more on the way. “ We should be done in an hour if others keep their pace” I calculated looking at the other boys, who were busy clearing their portion. “ I hope so, I am so hungry” “You are always hungry” I glared at him “Can't blame me my cousin works in the kitchen, so I can't help but think of food” “Lucky you” I scoffed I pulled off my shirt which was now too drenched in sweat and got back to clearing. Jake's eyes drifted to my side, “At least your wound is healing well” “Yeah it started to scab 3 days ago” I muttered glancing at the jagged scar forming beneath my ribs, my stomach twisted at the memory. “How is your old man” he asked “Still the same asshole as always, yours?” I scoffed rolling my eyes at the mention of my father. “He has been quiet lately… too quiet” I looked at him sharply “ Really” “Remember what we talked about?” He asked “Wait… which one again” I peered at him unsure of what he was saying. “You forget things easily, the one we discussed last week” he replied glaring at me. “Oh now I remember but we talked about a lot last week…. So which topic in particular…” “The escape? or the thing with the Alpha's guards? or the North wing gate?” I pretended to think—rage baiting him. I love teasing Jake. “Really man!!, I am talking about the most important one …”he reminded already getting frustrated by my teasing. “Oh now I remember” “Finally I was five seconds to smacking you” “Oh wait…that one” I asked emphasizing my words. “Yeah that's the one…it really comes in handy most times “ “I advise you think about it, and we need to make plans for the other ones we also discussed” he continued, his gaze softening as he peered at me. “Hmm…we will talk more about it, your cousin is here” I informed him, nodding at the direction she is coming through. Kira approaches, looking frazzled and tired holding two heavy looking bags. “Hi cuz” “Hello Blake” she greeted as she approached us. “Hi Kira” I replied, continuing with my work. “What brings you here” Jake asked looking around “Don't worry your head, I am on errand for the Luna,so I decided to bring you lunch” “ I don't want you getting in trouble” “It's fine….I took this from the children’s kitchen, they had lots of leftovers so share amongst yourselves, eat before someone finds out” “James your sister asked me to give this to you” she stretched out her hand giving me another nylon bag. “She's… she isn't coming out today” “Is she doing okay, I have been trying to reach her for hours but….I think she blocked me” I frowned immediately as I spoke. Bloom rarely blocks her mindlink, or me ….unless– “Is something wrong…. anything happened?” I worriedly asked my chest tightening at my thoughts going wry. “Well, about that… Hailey pulled another stunt this morning” Kira informing sharing the morning ordeal to them. I exhaled slowly, of course she did always picking on Bloom whenever she's bored, treating her like a personal stress ball. “Let me guess” I said “The food was to salty for her health” “Or the pancakes were too soggy for her taste” Jake added, laughing as we both looked at Kira. She shook her head “ Not even close” “This time, it was cockroaches” she informs lowering her voice to a whisper. “What the heck” “Woah… where did she even get those?” Jake laughed “I bet my hand she didn't pick them up herself” We laughed with him, but something about it didn't sit right with me. “Those are rare around here” I muttered out in thought Kira nodded “Tell me about it, knowing Bloom all my life, she's is the neatest among us. Her response earned a small smile from me, Bloom hated dirt, hated mess – I know this so well cause we share a room. But why then did she block me – what if “Thanks Kira” I said pushing away any bad thoughts forming in my head. “When you see her, tell her I am sorry I wasn't there” “sure James…don't worry too much, she is better now” she assured. “I got to go, see you around” she bade good bye, hurrying to leave. “Hey man, don't think too much into it… we both know how strong Bloom is, she will get through this” Jake tries to reassure me. “I know Jake ….it ..it just that this as been going on for just too long” I growled out. “Must they always pick at us , she has suffered enough” “Everything is going to be okay” Jake assures. I didn't answer. Everything needs to be okay This time…something as to be done. No matter the consequences.
