Sunset had come and gone, and John still hadn’t returned from the tavern. Benjamin was lying on the bed waiting. Rocìo had let him in without asking any questions. He’d gone to see the port captain and the admiral, to find out about his next mission. They were sending him to the Caribbean Sea. The repair work had been done for a few days now, and the Sunrise was shipshape again, anchored with the other vessels in the fleet, waiting for the last of the provisions to be loaded.
But John didn’t know all this yet. With his ship now repaired, the moment of their separation was drawing near, something Benjamin wasn’t ready to deal with yet.
