Kayla’s POV The tears started falling before I even realized it. My chest tightened, each sob coming out as a painful gasp for air. “She left me there, she abandoned me” I croaked out, my heart feeling heavy. “She did it to protect you,” Silver whispered in my mind, her voice gentle, like a comforting breeze against my skin. I wanted to believe that. I had to. But the ache in my chest was unbearable. For so long, I’d believed my parents were dead, that I’d been spared from some type of accident but that wasn't the case.
