Aalyan Erea and her mate were very nice and, after he’d gorged himself on the warm bread and sticky sweet mango, he’d relaxed enough to tell them one of the stories they claimed to crave. In his pack, no one had ever asked him to retell a story. Except for Milthu. But no way was he making something up in front of all these Jaguars. He went with one of his favourites, a close encounter with humans that had ended with three of the older Leopards leading the hunters in a merry chase and leaving them stranded in a mountainous passage. “And then they ran out of bullets.” As he spoke the final words, he became aware that the clearing had gone quiet around him. He kept his eyes on Erea’s rapt expression, though, and continued, “So of course they were easy prey.” That got him a couple of gasps
