EP4: The President's Prized Possession
“Damn it, Laura, why won't you pick up?”
Evelyn was frustrated; she'd called Laura countless times during her drive, but no one answered.
“What should I do now?”
She hurriedly walked into the luxurious hotel, rushing to the room she had personally booked for Andre.
All the way, she tried to think of a solution to make Andre's night go smoothly, but she couldn't see a way out.
Ding
The elevator doors opened wide, and she quickly stepped out with trembling legs. Her small hand moved nervously, as if she didn't know what to do.
She stopped in front of the room number she had memorized by heart.
Her slender finger hesitated over the doorbell.
She was terrified...
Yes...
She dreaded the disappointed look Andre would cast her way.
Because her appearance wasn't appealing, not beautiful, not sexy enough to catch his eye. So doing her job well, doing it excellently, was the only way to make Andre glance at her, even if just for a minute.
But now she was failing at her job, which was no different from a disaster in her life.
What on earth should she do...?
Evelyn asked herself a hundred times, trying to find a solution, trying to solve the problem, but it seemed her mind was completely blocked now.
Her small hand rubbed her flushed face, red from the alcohol, and she decided to press the doorbell to call the person inside. But then the door opened wide before she could.
She was shocked, startled, when she saw Andre in a white bathrobe standing behind the door.
“Mr. President...”
“Come in.”
Andre's voice no longer had any trace of kindness.
He must have been very angry with her for not being able to bring the woman he had chosen to be a surrogate for him as he wanted.
She trembled, stepping over the threshold into the spacious room. The door closed automatically, and, of course, it locked itself as well.
Her hand clutched the edge of her A-line skirt in anxiety.
“Mr. President... I...”
She hadn't finished speaking when Andre, who had now walked over to sit on the edge of the bed, interrupted her, staring at her trembling figure.
“I can't believe I had to waste almost an hour because of this.”
“I really don't know why Laura didn't show up as planned.”
“Exactly, I don't understand why a top-notch secretary like you would fail at something like this?”
Andre's words were flat, but she knew he was very irritated.
“I arranged everything with Laura properly. She even promised to be here half an hour early. But I don't know why she didn't show up.”
“This is the first time you've disappointed me.”
“I'm really sorry... I'll find someone else. I'll try calling around again...”
"No one's going to pick up your call at this hour, nine or ten at night."
"..."
She was speechless, tears almost falling, because Andre had never spoken to her so harshly before.
"But I... don't want to waste another night like this."
"I'll try calling Laura again."
"How many times have you called, Evelyn?" he asked, his voice tight with displeasure.
"Uh... probably around fifty times."
"See, if she wanted to answer, she would have by now. But she hasn't, and even if you call until your fingers cramp, she won't pick up."
"Then I'll..."
Her tears streamed down her cheeks, but she quickly wiped them away with the back of her hand.
"Then let's postpone it. As for tonight, I'll call someone else to take care of you, Mr. President."
"I told you, I don't waste my time for nothing, and I don't want to wait around anymore."
"I..."
She tried to hold back her sobs, trying to stay strong and find a solution as quickly as possible.
"I'm very disappointed in you, Evelyn."
After a long silence, Evelyn wiped away her tears and decided to speak up.
"You said... you wanted a smart woman with at least a master's degree, right?"
She looked up into the sharp, rust-colored eyes of her employer.
"Yes, and she can't be a virgin."
She pressed her lips into a straight line, trying to be strong, and spoke.
"Am I smart, Mr. President?"
"You are smart, a skilled worker, a woman worthy of admiration."
"And I have a master's degree."
"Yes."
Andre nodded in agreement with the words of his clumsy but very capable secretary, Evelyn.
"What do you mean by saying this, Evelyn? Is there something you want to say?"
Evelyn removed her thick glasses from her face, then stepped forward to stand in front of the person sitting on the edge of the bed, only about a meter apart.
Andre's thick, bushy eyebrows knitted together, his sharp eyes looking at her with suspicion.
"And I'm not a virgin."
She lied so smoothly that even she was surprised.
"What nonsense are you talking about, Evelyn?"
"Mr. President... I'm willing to take on the role of surrogate for you."
She wasn't wrong in her assumption; Andre's face was overwhelmed with shock.
"Are you out of your mind?"
"I... meet all the qualifications you want, Mr. President."
"That's true..."
"So, since I failed in my duty, I'm ready to take responsibility for this myself."
Andre shook his head in disagreement, which only made Evelyn feel even more ashamed, but she continued to try.
"I won't let anyone know about this. I'll carry your child to the best of my ability, and once I give birth, I won't interfere with the child... or with you, Mr. President."
"It's impossible for you not to get involved with the child or me, since we work together."
She could barely hold back her sobs, but she had to try her best.
“I will resign immediately after I give birth to your child, Mr. President.”
Andre remained seated, his face full of disbelief.
“I think you're intoxicated, Evelyn.”
“I'm not drunk.”
“But you've been drinking. I can smell the alcohol on you.”
Evelyn forced a smile, even though her heart was heavy with tears.
“I know I'm not your type, Mr. President. I'm not beautiful, I'm not sexy, and I'm too plain for any man to want me...” She finally broke down in tears and continued to speak through her sobs.
“But I... I can serve as a surrogate for you, Mr. President, and I'm confident I can do it better than any other woman.”
She stepped closer and closer to Andre.
“Please... give me a chance, Mr. President... I promise to be the best surrogate mother...”
“But we won't be able to look each other in the eye. Don't forget, we have to work together, Evelyn.”
