3 Months Later
James POV
I was getting nervous and excited all at the same time. Marcy was finally coming back to the city for Thanksgiving break. The last time I saw her was at the airport when she was leaving off for college. I hadn't told anyone in my family about finding my mate except my cousin, David. He was the only one in the family, besides me, who was open-minded about hybrids. We shared the idea that if it was love, then it didn't matter the species.
I wanted so desperately to be the one to pick Marcy up from the airport, but she told me not to, since her parents were going to be there. It hurt, but she promised she would see me later on in the day.
I was anxious all day at work. From my office, I could see the whole city, and I tried to imagine where she came from. She didn't tell me if she belonged to a pack or the vampire clan. I assumed she belong to the Black Forest pack since the rumors said there was a hybrid who lived there. Plus, I knew how Viktor was. He hated wolves, and he hated the idea of living in a city full of them. The only reason why he was working with us was because of the peace treaty the clan leader before him made.
There are not many cities like this one. Most cities are run by humans with the supernaturals blending in and building their territories outside of the city limits. Packs, clans, covens and territories were all separated and rarely ever mingled. Of course, there were many instances where they worked together or shared the same space, but if it were up to them, they would never mix.
College was one of those places. I was worried about Marcy while she was away. WSU was a big school, and no doubt there were a lot of different supernaturals. I've been to Washington many times before for business, and from my experience, there were a lot of werewolves and witches. I was a little relieved when she told me she was masking her scent so they would think she was human, but I also loved the way she smelled.
I looked at my watch, it was nearly 3pm. Marcy should have landed an hour ago. I took out my phone to send her a quick text, and to my surprise, she had already texted me saying she made it into the city safely and was now with her parents. I smiled to myself, knowing she was thinking about me as much as I was thinking about her.
I sent her a quick reply, letting her know how excited I was to finally see her again tonight, and then put my phone away. I could no longer contain myself. I knew the company would be fine with Jacob, my VP, if I left early for the day.
"Where are you running off to?" Jacob asked as I rushed to the elevator. He was my best friend growing up and could read me like a book. I didn't tell him about Marcy, but I knew he knew.
"None of your business," I said as causally as I could.
"Well, Mr. Boss Man. You leaving work early is my business as your VP, being that I would have to take on your tasks, along with mine," he sighed.
"You don't even do your own work," I scowled at him.
"I can't believe you just said that! I do my work," he says with a fake look of offense.
"Whatever. I have some things to take care of at home. I'll probably be out tomorrow, maybe the week. I don't know yet," I said, doing my best to hide my smile.
"Dude! We have a meeting with Alpha Black tomorrow. You can't miss it. We need to make sure we get that contract signed," Jacob said.
"f**k, I forgot about that." David would understand if I told him I planned to spend time with my mate. "Call him and let him know I am on my way so we can finalize the contract."
"What? I don't get to go? " He pouted.
"You and I both know you only want to see the unmated she-wolves. Keep it in your pants for once before you catch something." I said before turning back to the elevator.
"I always use protection. I won't catch anything," he smiled. I rolled my eyes and got into the elevator.
The drive from the office to David's pack was short and boring. The guard at the pack's border was expecting my arrival and let me through as soon as I arrived. At least Jacob called like I told him too, otherwise I'd have to wait at that damn gate for approval onto the pack lands.
When I pulled up to the pack house, I was surprised to see Devyn outside. He was normally out running around with Jason doing Goddess knows what. From what I heard around the city, they were no longer friends. Growing up, they were inseparable. I wonder what happened.
"Dev, my man. What's up?" I said, as I got out of the car.
"Oh, what's up James? Here to see my dad?" He asks as he walks over to give me a bro hug. Odd.
"Yea, just some contracts I need him to go over and sign off on. How's school? You're in college now, right?"
"Yes sir. I'm attending the local university," he says with a forced smile.
"I see. Well, I'll see you around. I'm running short on time and I really need your dad to sign these papers. Is he in his office?" I asked.
"Yea, I think the generals are there too. I saw them and their daughter go into the pack house not too long ago."
Generals? I thought he only had one? Unless the Vampire general was also there. And if so, they had a daughter? Were the rumors of a hybrid in David's pack true? Or, was it Marcy and her parents? My wolf told me Marcy was a vampire, but she was also a wolf. And although she didn't out right say it, I was pretty sure she belonged to this pack. it was the only thing that made sense.
"Alright, thanks." I said before turning to head into the pack house. Though something was off about Devyn, he wasn't acting himself. "Hey Dev?" I called out.
"Yeah?"
"Want to grab lunch with me sometime? Catch up?" I asked. Something was bothering me and I knew it was probably nothing, but I couldn't shake the feeling that something was off about him.
"Yeah, I would like that," he smiled. I nodded and then turned back to the pack house.
I was greeted by all the pack members in the house, some of them calling me Alpha while others just bowed in respect. When I got to David's office, I noticed the door was slightly ajar and there was laughter coming from the room. I knocked on it and waited for David to let me in.
When he shouted come in, I opened the door fully and walked in, closing the door behind me. As I turned my attention back to the room, my breath left my body as her scent hid me hard and I heard a soft angelic whisper. "James?"
