Chapter 6

Flashback- 2 days ago Marcy's POV After getting settled in and going shopping on the first weekend with my roommate, I was finally ready to start my new life. I met a ton of people who were really friendly and outgoing. I wasn't necessarily shy, but I didn't like all the attention I was getting on my eyes. People acted like they had never seen a person with green eyes before. Granted, my eyes were a different type of green. Most people who had green eyes had specks of light brown, or were a blueish-grayish-green. Mine were a deep jade green. I found out that they also changed to a dark forest green when I was upset or sad. I started wearing brown contacts to keep people from staring and attracting unwanted attention from the other supernaturals. After the first week of classes, I felt like I was being watched. I would hide in the shadows to see if anyone was following me, and ended up finding nothing. I also found out that my wolf, Gaia, has been with me since my birthday. She said that my vampire genes were blocking her from fully emerging and showing herself, hence why she was so angry when we first talked. Since then, we have formed a really great relationship. Gaia also told me she was responsible for my body changing. My boobs grew and so did my muscles, hair and ass. All of my physical features were slightly different from before, which explained my eyes. Every week, I would sneak out of my dorm room, and onto the roof of my building. It was always empty and in the rare cases it wasn't, I would conceal myself in the shadows, and then jump into the surrounding forest. Washington was beautiful, and if I didn't find James, I would really consider staying here permanently. As I snuck onto the roof, like I did every week for the past 3 months, I got the feeling I was being followed again. Gaia was up and peering through my eyes for any signs of danger. I found the first shadow and quickly canceled myself. I heard the shuffling of what sounded like two people. I stayed hidden until they finally came into view. It was two humans playfully trying to be quiet as they made out and chased each other. Seeing no danger, I jumped from the shadows I was hiding in, to the forest. I knew it was the same forest, because I could see the school, but each time I jumped here, I always landed in a different spot than the time before. Today was a special day. It was a full moon and Gaia was feeling extra energized. She told me she thinks we can shift now that it was a full moon. Normally, wolves shifted on their birthday, but since I was a hybrid, my vampire genes naturally fought against it. I waited excitedly, and finally, a little after midnight, Gaia told me it was time. I quickly took off all my clothing and folded it nicely. I hid it with my phone under the large log I was sitting on, eager to get started. Once I was done, I moved to an open area with a perfect view of the full moon. This is going to hurt Marcy, but don't fight against it. Will it take long? Yes, because this is the first time and you are a hybrid. Just try to relax and breathe. Trust in me and I will make it go as quickly as I can. I took a deep breath and followed Gaia's instructions. I felt sharp pains all over my body as my bones broke and readjusted themselves. My skin burned all over as fur started to sprout and cover my body. I hunched over, doing my best to hold in my screams and breathe through the pain. I have been through a lot of pain in my life. The kids at school would use combat training as an excuse to break as many bones as they could. They had a competition on who could break the most bones. In the end, I always beat them, even with my broken bones. Still, nothing compared to the pain I was feeling from this shift. After a few long minutes, it was done. I was out of breath and my eyes were still closed. I lay there, not having the energy to move or even open my eyes. I'm sorry, Marcy. It took longer than it should have. You have strong vampire genes, but your wolf genes are just as strong. Your vampire side tried to heal you, making the shift take longer. It's okay. It's done now. Will it be like this every time? No. You will get used to it and it will become quick and painless. Thank Goddess. I chuckeled. After finally catching my breath, I allowed Gaia full control to run around as she pleased. I watched through her eyes as we ran full speed over fallen trees, up hills, and over creeks. I wasn't sure how long we were out, but we finally turned back. I found my phone and clothes where I stashed them. It was already 4am. I knew the sun would be up soon and so would my roommate. I got dressed as quickly as I could and jumped back to the shadow I hid in on the roof. "Ah, so you're a vamp?" Came a voice I had never heard before. I frantically looked around and didn't see anyone. I cursed myself for not concealing myself in the shadow when I jumped back. I could try to do it now, but there was no point, I was already caught. "If you're a vamp? Why do you smell like a wolf?" The mysterious person asked. I froze. My scent is supposed to be masked. How could he tell I was a wolf? "No need to keep hiding. I already know you're there." "Show yourself," I demanded, as Gaia came to the surface. "You first," they responded. I let out a breath and took a step out of the shadow I was hiding in. I heard a click above me and turned around to see a medium-built, dark-skinned man sitting on the top of the rooftop entrance door. He was an attractive man and seemed to have a dominant aura about him, but I could tell he was no more than an omega. "So, care to tell me why a vamp smells like a wolf?" He asked as he hopped off the roof and walked towards me. "Who are you?" I growled. "Oh, you growl just like a wolf too. Could you perhaps be a hybrid?" "I don't know what you're talking about. Vamps? Wolves? Hybrids? None of that makes sense." I stated, trying to play off that I was human. "Come on, you can do better than that. Whatever you used to mask your scent when you left, is gone now," he stated before reaching out his hand. I instinctively took a step back. "My name is Jordan. It's nice to meet you, Marcy." "How do you know my name?" I demanded, not taking his hand. "Are you kidding me? A black girl with crazy green eyes. Contacts or not, everyone wanted to see. Its not often you run into someone like that," he smiled, displaying his deep dimples. "I'm not some circus freak you can oogle. And I don't appreciate being stalked. Leave me alone or I'll report you." I stated, walking past him. "Marcy, I recommend masking your scent again. Others aren't as nice as I am," he called after me. I just ignored him and kept walking. He is a wolf. And he was right. Right about what? About masking our scent. I can do it. At least until we can make it back to that witch who gave us the potion. Alright I trust you. *** Present Day After everything that happened the last couple of days, I couldn't wait to get home. I hadn't told James about that guy, Jordan, and I wasn't really sure if I wanted to. I know I should, but I don't want him to over react. I figured if Jordan bothered me again, I would tell him. But for now I just wanted to relax. Everyone knew I was a hybrid in the city, so Gaia didn't have to mask our scent when we arrived. James wanted to pick me up, but I told him not to since my parents were going to. I hadn't told them about Jame's being 7 years older than me, and I didn't want the first time they met to be awkward. But who cares what I want? My parents brought me to see Alpha Black when we made it back to the pack. We were all in his office and I was telling Alpha Black about Gaia and how I had my first shift and how much it hurt. They all seemed to enjoy my pain as they broke out laughing when I told them how tired I was. That's when it hit me. The smell of fresh ground coffee invaded my senses. It was him. James was here, no doubt about it. Gaia was going crazy in my head, wagging her tail so hard her whole back side was moving with it. My heart rate increased as he walked in and closed the door behind him. "James," I said so softly, I was surprised he heard me over all the laughter. Everyone instantly stopped laughing when James marched right up to me and pulled me into the biggest hug. He hugged me like his life depended on it, and I hugged him back with just as much need. I inhaled his scent deeply and relaxed into him. Suddenly, the rest of the world disappeared.
