Chapter 7

1707 Words
Veronica's POV "Ehem" I cleared my throat after the initial shock of seeing this behemoth of a man swallow my daughter. Everyone was still standing dumbfounded as Marcy and that giant awkwardly pulled apart. Rey and I already knew Marcy had found her mate, she told us when we visited her at school. What she didn't tell us was that he was more than twice her size. And Marcy wasn't small. "James, you know Marcy? How?" Alpha Black asked. James? Why did that name sound so familiar? "She's my mate. The one I told you about," James says, making Alpha Black choke. "She's your mate?" Alpha Black says, pointing at Marcy. His emphasis on my daughter had me hissing and Rey and James growling. "Is there something wrong with my daughter, Alpha Black?" I challenged. I am not a wolf, so I do not submit to alphas, and I am not afraid to challenge them either. "No not at all!" Alpha Black says, putting his hands up in surrender. "I didn't mean it like that. It's just, James told me he had a mate, but he didn't mention it was Marcy." "You mean he didn't mention she was a hybrid?" Rey says. "No, it's just, Marcy is a part of this pack, most people meet their mates in their own pack." Alpha Black stuttered. We all knew he meant no harm, but we continued pressing him for the hell of it. I tried to hold my smile back but it was becoming hard. "Most, not all, David," James said, as he wrapped his arm around Marcy's waist. "I know that. It's jus-" "It's just what? Hybrids don't deserve mates?" I shot at him. "What? No! Everyone deserves a mate. Even hybrids. I was just hoping Marcy would have been mated to Devyn," he admits, and the whole room goes silent. "I thought Devyn was mated to Erica?" Marcy says. "What do you mean? Erica and Jason are mates," Alpha Black says. "I thought Devyn found out Erica was his mate at the graduation party?" She said, confused. I was also confused. Everyone knew that it was a misunderstanding, and that Devyn and Erica were under some kind of spell. How didn't Marcy know? "You must have spent every second of your summer in that library if you didn't know that Devyn was under a spell. It wore off hours after the bombing and they realized they weren't mates," Alpha Black explained. "So you wanted Marcy to be his rebound?" I pushed again. "Okay, that's enough. Other than you, Alpha Black was the only one in this city who treated me kindly," Marcy says. "What do you mean?" James asked, concerned. "We'll talk about it later. Why are you here anyway?" Marcy asked. "James is my little cousin," Alpha Black says, surprising all of us. "I came for work. I have a contract I need David to sign," James says, holding up the file. "And it couldn't wait until our scheduled meeting tomorrow?" Alpha Black teased. "I'm taking tomorrow off. I'm planning on spending time with my mate and going on a special date," James says, looking at Marcy. I smiled as I watched my baby's face turn beet red as she buried her head in his arms. "Alright, we'll get out of your hair. Alpha, would you show James to our place when you're done? I'll prepare dinner early." "Of course. Thanks for stopping by, it was good to see you again, Marcy." Alpha Black said. *** I was happy that my daughter found a mate. When she told us, I was over the moon. One of my biggest fears, was that I was doing her a disservice by getting her hopes up and telling her that she would have either a mate or a partner. After seeing how broken she was when her teachers told her it was impossible, I told her they were lying. The truth was, I was lying. I didn't know if it was possible or not. It has never been recorded in history, but I didn't want to see my baby crying. I prayed every night to the Moon Goddess and the Mother Vampire that they would bless Marcy with someone who loved her as much as Rey and I did. Most Vampires don't believe in the Mother Vampire. They only believed in the Father Vampire. But I have had the chance to meet her in the forbidden woods. It was over 300 years ago. I lived in Rome at the time, in the clan of generals where I was born. I didn't know my mother, but my father raised me to be a top fighter. Our clan was different from all others. We were blessed by the Father Vampire with special abilities that no other clan possessed. Our purpose was to defend the King and assist other clans in battle on the King's orders. Back then, there were always battles. Vampire clans fighting each other for rights to land, and fighting with other supernatural. It was never ending. During one of the biggest battles in supernatural history, the Vampire King and the Werewolf King were fighting to eliminate each other. Neither believed that they could coexist, and neither were willing to negotiate a possibility of evenly splitting the land and living separately. They were dark times and other supernatural took advantage of it, especially dark witches. The dark witches sided with whoever had more to offer. With so many lives being lost every day, the King ordered everyone in my clan to train and become stronger. He sent us to the forbidden woods. Most of us didn't make it out. Those who did, were never the same. It was too dangerous. After seeing how the top generals left the woods, the King finally decided to end that training. Being the only general who was able to still fight after leaving the woods, I was promoted to the number one general in the clan. The woods took a toll on me, like it did with everyone else. Anyone who entered was cursed. During my training in the woods, I met the Mother Vampire. She was the reason I was the only one who was able to pass the training. While I was there, the Mother Vampire told me of my destiny. She said I would give birth to a strong girl. My daughter would be a leader and have powers that surpass even the two Kings. In order for that to happen, the Mother Vampire blessed me with gifts to grow stronger, so I could support her. I may have been born a general, but I had no rank. I wasn't strong enough to support her. I asked if she would have a ranked father or partner to help support her in her destiny, but the Mother Vampire told me she would not have a partner to battle along side with her. Although it broke my heart, I didn't question her. I found my partner shortly after. We spent a good 200 years together, fighting for the King. One day, we were viscously attacked by werewolves who had the help of dark witches, dark wizards, and warlocks. Their combined power was too much and we had lost too many generals, including my partner. After that, the King agreed to meet with the Wolf King to end the 300-year war. Looking back on it now, I understand what she meant when she said Marcy wouldn't have a partner. Marcy didn't have a vampire partner, because she wasn't a pureblood vampire. No, she had a werewolf mate. An Alpha. I prayed to the Mother Vampire and Moon Goddess a thank you for blessing my baby girl with a mate who will love her and help her on her way. *** Rey's POV I never thought Marcy would have a mate. Don't get me wrong, I prayed all the time to the Moon Goddess asking her to not let my little girl be lonely. It was bad enough that she wasn't accepted for being a hybrid. I know she thinks I don't notice she is always alone and never has any friends, but I do. I could tell she was lonely growing up, and sometimes I hated having to leave to go to work, but it came with the territory. I was born a beta, but growing up I never wanted to be. Alpha Black and I were best friends growing up and it was expected we both would take over for our fathers when the time came. When the time came for Alpha Black to officially offer me the position of Beta, I formally declined. He knew I was always going to decline, but asked anyway due to formalities. Not accepting the position as Beta meant I was demoted to Omega. Due to my combat skills, I was announced as the General of the pack the same day. I met my mate the day I turned 18. She was older than me by 3 years, and we tried to conceive for years, but were unsuccessful. After 5 years, we decided we were going to adopt. There were plenty of pups who needed a home. Unfortunately, we never had a chance to make it happen. My mate was attacked by a rogue and succumbed to her injuries. After the incident, Alpha Black signed a peace treaty with the vampire clan nearby. We had come to an agreement that we would help each other keep our people safe. The wolves of our pack would guard the borders during the day, the vampires at night. It was at the meeting when we were discussing the details that I met Veronica. Her dull eyes held the same empty feeling mine did. I could tell she had lost her partner. She was there to make sure the treaty was going smoothly, since it would be the first in history to be recorded. I didn't know then that we would fall in love and have a hybrid baby. But I thanked the Moon Goddess for it. And as Marcy grew, my prayers changed to asking the Moon Goddess to bless her with a mate. I'm happy my prayers were answered.
