3rd Party POV
"I'm about to board my flight. Is there anything else you need?" he asked in an irritated tone. "No... Damnit, I already told you. I'm not going for that."
He wiped his hand down his face when he suddenly caught the most amazing scent he had ever smelled. It was like freshly cut grass on a crisp spring morning. The smell alone made him want to let his wolf out. "I'll call you when I land. I've got to go," he said when he turned around and made eye contact with the origin of the scent.
He hung up, not caring what the person on the other side of the line was saying. Of all places, he found his mate at the airport as he was getting ready to leave town. She was beautiful, there was no denying her beauty, but she was young.
He couldn't break eye contact as he stalked towards her, his wolf going ballistic trying to get him to hurry up and claim her. It was as if he had no control over himself. The moment he was close enough, he grabbed her in his arms and inhaled her scent deeply. It was intoxicating yet something was off.
He felt the vibration of her growl when she finally spoke the word he'd wanted to hear his whole life. "Mate".
Mate is vampire. His wolf said, causing him to tense up.
"Mate?" He says, pulling back from her. "What is your name mate?"
"Marcy." She responded in a soft angelic voice.
"Marcy. I'm James." He says, stepping back from her.
Mate is vampire. His wolf howled in his head.
"Hi, James. Are you on this flight?" she asked, throwing him off guard.
"No, I'm on my way to Dallas. Do you live in the city?" He asked, eyeing the gate agent who looked annoyed.
"I'm off to college. I will not be back for some time." She said, and the thought broke his heart.
"Hey, half-breed, are you going to board or what? We need to close the door," the gate agent said with disgust in her voice.
"Oh, yes. I'll be right there." Marcy says before turning back to her mate. "I didn't think I would ever find a mate. I've got to go," she says before digging into her purse. She quickly found a pen and wrote her number on his hand before heading off onto her plane.
James was left standing there dumbfounded. He never thought he would meet his mate, who was a hybrid, and left seconds after meeting. Maybe that was better. His wolf kept going on and on about her being a vampire. James didn't care though, he had a mate.
The last call for his flight to Dallas sounded over the intercom and he quickly made his way over to his gate. After making it to his seat, he pulled his phone out and entered Marcy's number in before getting ready for the long flight to Dallas.
Marcy's POV
As I was making my way down the jetway, I quickly pulled the potion out of my purse and downed it. My body warmed as it spread through me, masking my scent. I could tell the potion worked quickly as I took my seat in first class. The faces and sneers people usually made at me were absent. I scoff to myself. They treated humans better than hybrids.
I made myself comfortable in my seat and put my earphones on. It was going to be a long flight, but at least there was only one layover. I smiled to myself, happy that I was the only one in my row and didn't have to sit next to anyone. The flight attendant came by and offered me a glass of water. I knew this was because she thought I was human and she wanted to make sure my memories were altered before take-off. I gladly accepted.
As the flight attendants started doing their last checks and the pilot started to pull away from the gate, I pulled my phone from my pocket to start my playlist. Upon unlocking my phone, I saw a text from an unknown number. My heart beat faster as I opened it to see a message from my mate.
Have a safe flight mate. I look forward to learning more about you. Until we meet again, xo James.
I felt like a little girl all over again. My face heated at the words and, undoubtedly, I was blushing redder than a rose. I can't believe I have a mate. It literally makes no sense. I dont have a wolf, so how do I have a mate? It doesn't matter. What matters is that James seems not to care that I am a hybrid. I know for a fact he heard that the gate agent call me a half breed.
Safe travels James.
I texted him back and then quickly put my phone in airplane mode, afraid to see his response.

After landing in Pullman, I ordered an Uber to my hotel. The move-in day wasn't until tomorrow, and since I knew I would be getting in late, I booked my flight one day early and got a hotel for the night. James and I texted for a few hours before he called me. We talked about everything. Well, mostly I talked and he listened. But he didn't seem to mind.
I opened up to him and told him about being a hybrid. That news didn't seem to bother him. Being that we were from the same city, he had heard rumors of a hybrid in Alpha Black's pack, though he never thought it was true. That was until he met me. James was not a part of Alpha Black's pack. There were two other packs that resided in the city along with Viktor's clan. James belonged to the pack north of the city.
I also found out that James was 25 and had two siblings, an older brother and younger sister. They were Alpha's, but James didn't want to be. His older brother took over the pack from their father, and he took over the family business. He traveled a lot because of work and was currently on a business trip in Dallas. After talking for a few more hours, we decided to call it a night since we both had big days ahead of us.
I was starting to regret leaving the city. I had a mate, and he didn't care that I was a hybrid. I didn't tell him about not having a wolf or my ability to jump and conceal myself in the shadows. I felt like that might have been too much too soon. I did plan on telling him, but it would have to wait until we met in person again. Now that I have found my mate, I was more than happy to go back to the city during holiday breaks.

I didn't get much sleep last night. I had a pounding headache that wouldn't go away. Luckily, a warm shower and cup of coffee helped. I pulled out my phone to order an Uber to take me to campus and smiled when I saw a sweet good morning text from James. I never thought I would be a big puppy over my mate, but then again, I never thought I would have a mate.
Would you shut up already? Why do you keep saying that? You're a wolf, are you not?
"What the hell? Who was that?" I said loudly as I looked around the room.
Great. The Moon Goddess not only paired me with a vamp, but a stupid vamp.
"Wait what?" I said out loud, slightly offended.
Do I have to spell it out for you? You are a werewolf. I am your wolf.
"Oh, my Goddess. I have a wolf!" I shouted.
You might want to get in the habit of talking to me in your head. You look like a loony.
I'm in my room, no one can see me.
They will once the Uber gets here.
Oh s**t. I looked at my phone and saw the Uber was almost here. I quickly gathered my things and checked out of the hotel and waited in the lobby. Luckily, it didn't take long for him to pull up and I quickly got in. The drive wasn't too bad and the Uber driver was friendly. Once I got to campus, I was bombarded by the number of people. I knew Washington State University was a big college, but I was overwhelmed by the sheer number of people.
All of a sudden, I wanted my parents with me. I placed my hand on the necklace they gave me and concentrated. I closed my eyes and thought of my mom and reached out "Mom, can you hear me?" I waited for a moment but didn't hear anything. I was about to give up when I heard her voice.
"Sorry sweetie, I was just leaving Viktor's office. How are you?"
"I'm so overwhelmed. This is all too much. Can you and dad come up here?" I asked as a feeling of panic started to take over.
"We're on our way. Find a place where no one is around so we can jump to you."
"I'll let you know when I'm ready," I say as I frantically look around for a place to hide.
Calm down. You are not alone. All we have to do is find somewhere vacant. Like maybe the roof? My wolf tells me and I book it to the nearest building. I looked around, making sure no one noticed me, then I called for my mom. In an instant, she and my dad were holding me in a group hug.
"Calm down sweetheart, it's okay," my dad's voice echoed as I hugged them tightly.
"I just saw everyone with their parents, and the number of people was overwhelming. And I just wanted you here." I said, as I let tears run down my cheeks.
"There, there. I can sense there is something else you want to talk to us about. Is that right?" My mom asked. She was always picking up on what I was feeling and sometimes, I was grateful for it.
"Yes. But can you help me get moved into my dorm first and then we can talk?" I asked. They both nodded their heads. The first place we went to was to the bathroom. My mom needed to feed on one of the bags of blood she had stashed in her coreset.
We spent the next few hours finding my dorm, meeting my dorm mate and her parents, and then going shopping for everything I didn't bring. I was going to have to get a new wardrobe this weekend because it was getting late and I was already so exhausted.
I told my parents about my wolf and about finding my mate. I didn't give them too many details about James because of our age difference. I know they wouldn't care because that happened a lot among our kind, but still, I didn't plan on telling them just yet.
As the day came to a close, I felt so much better. I said goodbye to my parents as they left back to the city. I showered and spent the rest of the night texting James and getting to know my roommate. I was finally starting to feel comfortable. I ran into a ton of supernaturals here, mostly werewolves and witches. Though I did sense vampires and fairies as well, none of them seemed to notice that I was not human. I just hope this potion lasts as long as the witch claimed it would.
