Meeting the beast

I noticed that he had seemed a bit distracted the minute I walked closer. I knew they had good hearing, but it should be next to impossible for him to hear anything from that height. Wow, look at those wings. “Is it not the most breathtaking thing you have ever witnessed.” Nessy: “Scary, yes, breathtaking definitely. I wish I knew why dad never let us see this. It is like a world has opened up that we were never allowed to be part of you know?” “Exactly. Oh, my word he is landing. He seems uncomfortable. Like he is having trouble breathing. He comes down to land and slowly walks towards the fence. Nessy: “Oh crap, Oh crap. Cassy, I think we overstayed our welcome. Let us go!” “Hold on, please? Wait one minute. He does not seem like the aggressive beast we believed him to be. He just seems sad, Uncomfortably sad.” As he walks closer, I feel a tingling feeling inside my chest. I do not know if it is fear or nerves. Honestly, I do not care, it is a rush nonetheless as I have never felt before. Nessy: “He seems more nervous than you. How is this even possible?" We both slowly walk to the fence. I found myself staring at him. It is the most magnificent thing I have ever seen. An albino dragon. His eyes are large. It almost makes mine feel small and that is saying something as elves are known for their large eyes. His scales, though white, have this strange reflective property, almost resembling the reflection of light on water. Showcasing every color yet none at all. He stops as if in fear. Sending out a roar so loud that I lose my balance from the ground trembling underneath my feet. As I fall to the ground. He looks at me with blood-red eyes. He is an albino after all. But it seems as though he almost immediately regrets having done that. I get up, shake myself off and try approaching the fence again. Nessy: “Cassy, I don’t feel safe! I think we should leave. We have no idea what he is capable of. If the fence will even stop him. After the destruction, he caused at the castle. After the soldiers, he had almost killed. Plus, you said you just wanted to see if he was okay. Well, he clearly is so, let us go!!!” “No, he is not. There is something wrong and I am not leaving here before I know what it is. You can go if you want. I will get back to the castle by myself. You don’t need to worry about me.” Nessy: “Like hell, I don’t! If you stay, I stay. Exactly how are you intending on doing this? Knowing how dangerous he is, why would you even try? It is plain stupidity and me staying here with you, probably makes me just as stupid.” “Fine, then be stupid with me, but just stay over there and keep quiet.” Nessy: “Don’t you worry your pretty little head about that. I am staying way over here. I will trust that you know what you are doing. You have always had a way with this sort of thing, but just please be careful.” I was going to answer her, agreeing to her terms, but I was so fixated on this beast of a creature, this sad giant, that I could not utter a sound. We are both standing on opposite sides of the fence staring at each other in complete silence for what feels like hours. Just staring into each other’s eyes getting lost in them. His eyes resemble the solar system, a golden sparkle for every star. Flakes of emotions filling them a little at a time until it seems as though they are entirely covered in a rain of it. The red is almost completely gone by this time. Did, did his eyes just change color as mine does? I stand there in my long purple coat with white fur edging, fake obviously, feeling drops of rain on my pale elven skin. “He is magnificent. I have never seen anything like it before. So powerful. Yet majestic. He seems so afraid of something, but what could scare him?.” Nessy: “I am sure I have no idea what you mean. What could scare him? However, I think you need to turn around!” I did hear her, but decided to ignore what she was saying. I hear mumbling behind me, but block it out completely and I lift my arm slowly towards this enormous creature. Dad (very angrily): “Nessy, what is going on here! I explicitly told you girls that you were never allowed to go close to the dragons. You know how dangerous they are, and you deliberately disobeyed my orders. Risking the life of not only you, my successor but also that of your younger sister. The one person you are supposed to be looking out for.” Nessy: “Dad just keep quiet for once and look for once!” Dad: “Did you just tell me to keep quiet?” Nessy grabs the king’s head and turns him towards Cassy standing in the rain. As I lifted my hand slowly the beast gently bowed his head. Reaching out to touch him with my hand extended through the fence, he presses his nose against me. In a spark of light with my head bending backward I can feel every emotion he has ever had rushing through every vein, every part of my being. I can see his life flashing in front of my eyes. Feel the love he had for his mother. The pain of being taken away from her. The joy of being reunited. The grief of sharing the pain she experienced in the war. He wasn’t even close to her, yet their bond was so strong that every blow she experienced every arrow piercing her skin the pain she felt was echoed in his body. He felt everything. No wonder he hates elves. Not necessarily hate. More like Fear! As I open my eyes, I see a magical light, a sapphire light with a silver sparkle swirling around both of us. From my shoulder up my arm glowing so brightly that I can feel it burning my eyes. Where we touch it surrounds his entire face, down to his neck to where his spine starts. It is like a magical ribbon wrapping our souls together binding us completely. It was the most beautiful thing I had ever witnessed in my life. Looking down I realize my feet are not touching the ground. I am hovering probably 15cm above it. Knowing this shook me so badly that I fell to the ground. Pulling away from him. It felt like I severed a lifeline, the main artery pumping life in between us was cut and slowly bleeding out. Rather painful I must admit. I need to be with him! My dad saw it all. He was standing there next to Nessy staring at me in disbelief.  Dad: “It finally happened. I have been trying to stop this for so long, but it seems it was inevitable. No matter how hard I tried to keep you away. Allowing you so many pets as buffers. I really thought that keeping you occupied with them would have stalled it at least. I failed and for that I am sorry.”
