CHAPTER SIXThe next day Georgina was disappointed when they reached the Racecourse and there was no sign of the Marquis. “I thought Uncle Ulric was going to race us,” she said plaintively. “Never mind,” Lara answered, “we will practise racing together, then when he does come perhaps we shall both beat him.” This appealed to Georgina and Lara gave her a long start, then managed to pull Glorious in to let her win by nearly a length. “Uncle Ulric would think that good!” Georgina said excitedly. “Of course he would,” Lara agreed. They had two long races and a shorter one and then, as Lara thought that the child had had enough, they started riding back through the woods.
