In The Jungle

290 Words
Trudging through the damp dense jungle, the girl's mind began to wander. She'd been walking for what seemed like hours, following the beast. The primitive creature was fast, but she couldn't keep up. She slowed to a halt as the beast's occasional grunting echoed through the trees signaling its halt. "Eat?" it asked her impatiently. "Eat where? There's nothing but trees here." "Where?" it repeated, leaving no room for argument. "Okay." Raising a paw, the beast tore a large tree down and chowed down on the leaves and buds of the plant. The girl approached the tree and tried to pry some from the tree's clutches, but it was no use. The wilderness was not hers. She considered trying to create some sort of weapon to use against the beast. Surely the savages of this land must have fashioned some sort of hatchets or swords. Maybe they used bows and arrows. She could've stolen the beast's sharp claws, or tried to find a root to use against it. The fact of the matter was, she didn't have time. The beast was already shaking the tree, waiting for her to finish her eating. "What do you do, eat all the time?" "Eat or lose," it replied. "Lose?" "Lose the jungle we travel through; lose the lush canopy. You shouldn't have come. It's for my own sake, not yours," it explained as it ate. Despite the beast's warnings, the girl proceeded with her journey, curious about it's motives. It led her to this dense foliage, and then tried to kill her. Nevertheless, it seemed to want to show her something. The girl made sure to keep her wits about her, ready to deal with any surprise the beast might throw at her.
