I saw a large building slowly being revealed through the tall pine trees, this pack house was bigger than the one in Black Forest and I could see that part of the building had been recently added.
We got out of the car and walked in the main reception area, we were still holding hands. Rob was following behind us while walking down a long corridor. We reached a door. Philip gave me a loving look and then let go of my hand, he walked in first, Rob and I followed behind him. All heads snapped towards us, they were pack elders and a couple of Alphas.
"What happened to my father?"
Demanded Philip.
"You should have been there...instead of chasing tale…"
Spat out one of the Alphas with dirty blood hair, an arrogant look on his face. He was staring at me, his green eyes sending chills down my spine, giving me the creeps.
I squint my eyes at him, my fists clench and I give him a hostile look. Philip in front of me, hiding me protectively from his view.
" Watch it Eric!"
He replied in a thunderous tone, at that same moment the door opened behind us.
"Son."
Said a sweet female voice, I saw everyone in the room bow.
" Luna!"
They all exclaimed, Philip turned back to face her and so did I. I bowed my head respectfully. She was a tall, strikingly beautiful woman. She wasn't a warrior but her aura was commanding and fierce. Philip had her looks only she had light brown hair and blue eyes.
"Mother."
He gave his mother a warm hug, I could see the unconditional love and closeness. I couldn't help but feel a bit jealous of what I was missing, what that rogue attack robbed me of. Philip turned to me.
"Mother, this is Sofia… Sofia, this is Luna Sheila, my mother."
"So this is the elusive Sofia, daughter of Alpha Dave."
She said smiling, wow she doesn't cut corners.
"Nice to meet you."
My voice came out low.
"Nice to meet you."
She replied in a kind voice. The four of us came out the door back into the corridor.
"Mother, can you accommodate Sofia in my room…"
He stopped and looked at me
"...is that ok Sofia?"
I nodded
"Yes"
Then he looked back at his mother and carried on.
"...we left in a rush and …"
She cut him off.
"Don't worry son, I've got it. Go see your father now."
He turned to face me once more.
"Sofia I'll be late, after I see my father I need to speak with these people and assess the situation."
"It's fine."
I gave him a smile. His mother took my arm and led me away. The restless feeling I was experiencing had become more intense causing drops of sweat to form on my forehead. Luna Sheila noticed it.
"Are you ok honey? You look pale."
"I am fine."
"You look like you need some fresh air, follow me."
She led me through the pack kitchen out the back into a small secluded patio, there are a few tables and chairs. I take a seat allowing the fresh night air to fill my lungs.
"When was the last time you left your pack?"
"It's been many years."
"Are you experiencing a bit of anxiety?"
I gave her an inquisitive look, how did she know? She took my silence as a confirmation and added.
"Don't worry, I've seen it before. The pack separation anxiety, it will pass."
When I felt better she led me to the top floor of the seven storey building into a big room. The room opened to a living room with a big sofa, TV, a desk, and a king size bed was at the back of the room. There was also a walk-in closet and an ensuite bathroom.
"I'll be back in a few moments"
Then she quickly disappeared leaving me alone. I am in a strange place with different people. At least Philip's scent is everywhere, giving me a sense of comfort.
Luna Sheila returned after a few minutes, bringing me some necessaries. I thanked her and she left. I cleaned up myself and changed into slacks then I sat on the sofa and watched tv. I must have drifted off, when I woke up shaking and sweating. The pack separation anxiety is full blown.
***
I am on the sofa for what feels like hours, unable to move. I am shaking, sweating, and hurting! When I finally caught his soothing scent, I lifted my gaze to the door.
There he is covering the whole entrance with his muscular body, both his hands holding either side of the doorframe. He looks tired and drained. He let out a sigh and then whispered my name.
"Sofia"
His presence instantly spread relief to my shaky achy body.
"This is hard for me...seeing my mate resist our bond...the pain it causes you hurts me too...why did you come here Sofia?"
He walks closer to the sofa, I lift my body up to get a better look at him. I am vulnerable, tears start forming in my eyes.
"...I've been waiting to meet my mate for a long time and when I finally found you…you aren't willing to be with me. I could see you had a troubled past so I didn't want to push you or force you. I am never going to reject you, the more I know you the more I realize you are the one for me. Your values are all about family, and pack prosperity as are mine. I can't watch you suffer like this any longer, this is really painful for me...reject me and go back to your life."
I am in shock , I just can't believe that this hudsome Alpha was setting me free.
"No…no…"
I say panicking more tears escaping my eyes, he looks down on me trying to decipher my pained reaction. His mother came in through the open door.
" Son, she isn't resisting your bond...she is going through pack separation anxiety. It's something common when a wolf never leaves their pack."
She came closer and rubbed Philip's back comforting him.
"I didn't mean to intrude, I was worried about Sofia, so I came to check on her and overheard you."
She placed her doctor's case on the table in front of the sofa and opened it. She took my temperature, I have a very high fever so she gave me some acetaminophen.
"I think a sedative will help with the anxiety so that you will get a good night's sleep and rest."
"A sedative...I don't want to…"
"Don't worry Sofia, you are safe, do as I recommend and you'll be fine in a couple of days."
"Ok."
I reluctantly agreed, she gave me another pill. The last thing I remember, Philip carrying me to bed looking down on me with guilt and concern.
