Chapter 8

I followed Damon’s scent, it ended near the beginning of the woods, close to the clearing besides our house. I shouted his name, my tone desperate, wanting to find him and the kids safe. Once I found them, I couldn't see anything as I examined them up and down for injuries. They were fine but just tied up, so I ordered the wolves to take them back to the pack. I continued to trace Damon’s scent, there he was in his wolf form, looking straight back at me. I hadn't even realised that he was standing in front of another wolf until the wolf lunged for his throat. I instantly shifted, my shorts shredding into pieces. I launched forward, snapping my jaw down deep into Lukas shoulder making his leg snap, yelping loudly from the agonising pain. I continued to hold down the grip I had on his shoulder, anger rushing through me as Damon fell to the ground, whimpering in sheer pain. Blood pouring down his coat, his fur clumping into thick spots as the blood began to stain the forest floor. I flung Lukas to the side, near four pack warriors, so they could watch his every movement. I nudged Damon’s side gently and watched as he slowly opened his eyes, whimpering. I began slowly licking his wound and whined when he closed his eyes not wanting him to lose consciousness. He needed to see the pack doctor immediately, and as I went to shift back to my human form, Lukas growled. My snout twitched in anger, my eyes narrowing darkly on Lukas, irritation and fury burning through my beast, all aimed at him. He suddenly charged again, and before he could reach Damon, I bit down on his throat, launching him into the tree opposite, listening to him whimper as he dropped to the floor with force. I growled in dominance, forcing Lukas’s wolf to submit to mine. He submits, as his wolf cowered into the back of his mind, no longer willing to continue their assault. I shifted back, chucking on a pair of shorts that a pack warrior had thrown to me. "Take him to the cells, I'll be visiting him later." I demanded, my voice hardening considerably. Lukas decided to take another chance and gripped his teeth onto an unexpected pack warrior's leg that hadn't shifted into his wolf. Dan shifted into his wolf, gaining control of him as he attempted to claw at his face, slashing his snout. I had enough of his behaviour, He was causing too much aggravation and was enabling me from seeing Damon’s injuries. I let out an uncontrollable animalistic growl, I rushed forward, my hands gripping around his neck as I forced him to shift. He began to shake, trying to fight for his life as he wiggled within my grip, but my nails conformed into claws, half of my wolf form out as I slit my claw along his throat, deep enough to open his jugular vein. Within a minute he fell to the floor limp and lifeless. "Take his body away and get rid of it." I commanded as I secured Damon into my arms, rushing towards the pack infirmary. I had already notified him though the pack mind link, so he could be prepared. Michael the pack doctor told me to place Damon down on the medical bed, He had already shifted back into his human form. He rushed around the room, injecting, and attaching wires to his body. He had already told me that he would need a blood transfusion, he had lost a lot of blood but thankfully, Lukas had missed his main artery. Michael inserted the needle into my vein before transferring my blood to Damon. He inspected his injuries, the cut to his neck was deep and Damon’s breathing had become laboured. Michael had begun to bandage his wounds, informing me that he would need to rest. That he would inject him with a medication to keep him asleep, to allow his body to heal properly without being interrupted. Luckily, Lukas had caught onto Damon’s shoulder more than his neck and had missed any main veins. I watched on as Michael slowly injected him, watching his eyes slowly close as he fell into a deep sleep. He needed time to rest, and Michael allowed me to take him home, so he could rest comfortably in his own bed. He would visit him in the morning, to check on his injuries and told me to keep an eye on him. My thoughts raced as I carried Damon home, my mind drifting back to the day I picked him up and brought him to the pack, how lost he looked and the feeling of losing him again, plaguing my entire being. I woke up with a headache, my neck and shoulder in agony from the position I was lying in. Walter laid next to me fast asleep, his chest rising and falling. I sat up and yawned, manoeuvring myself off the bed and towards the window. Looking out only to see darkness. It must have been the early hours of the morning, the events of yesterday suddenly invading my mind. Taking a step back, I see Walter sitting up, his back leaning against the headboard. "How are you feeling?" "I feel exhausted, but my mind is wide awake." I admitted, walking back towards the bed. Walter pulled my body on top of his, his eyes scanning over my injuries, his demeanour protective and possessive as he held onto me tightly. "You can't go for runs on your own till you’re properly healed.” “What? I just have a few scratches here and there. I have a duty to perform and that’s keeping my pack safe. All I expect from you is to stand by me now.” “I know Sia and I understand but I don’t want wasn’t to lose you while your all about saving the pack and the world, I’m scared cause we don’t have any children yet, who’s going to be the next Alpha, we’ve got none to run around the house we need to build our next generation too, I don’t want to lose you.”
