Chapter 1 First Meet

"An unknown connection can become a lifelong bond if the intention is genuine, and such connections are unbreakable." I still remember the day I met her for the first time. It was a routine day, filled with the usual tasks, and after a challenging day, I decided to visit my favourite place in the evening. The weather was pleasant, and a gentle breeze passed through. That’s when I saw her. She was wearing a pink top with black jeans. Her eyes were so captivating that I couldn’t help but think about her. At that moment, I didn’t realize that those captivating eyes would soon bring new emotional excitement and feelings of love into my life. A couple of days later, my colleague invited me to a birthday party. Initially, I was reluctant to join due to my hectic schedule, but he insisted so much that I couldn’t ignore his invitation. I still remember the time; it was 9:45 PM when I entered the party hall. It was packed, and everyone was busy with their own activities. I felt more comfortable being alone, so I went directly to the bar counter and sat down. After waiting for 15 minutes, the birthday boy arrived. He said, “I knew my buddy would definitely show up to wish me.” I wished him in my own way, “Rahul, I’m sorry to hear that you’re taking another step towards old age, but anyway, a very happy birthday, buddy.” After this, he moved on to greet other guests, leaving me alone again at the bar counter. I decided to order a drink. Suddenly, a pleasant, aromatic scent caught my attention from beside me. As I turned, I saw the same girl with those captivating eyes sitting next to me. She smiled at me and ordered a drink. She seemed uncomfortable in that environment. I found myself continuously staring at her, lost in her captivating eyes. Suddenly, she called out to me, saying there was some problem, asking twice before I snapped out of my gaze. I replied, “No, not at all… Actually, I’m feeling a bit bored, so I was just lost in thought… I’m sorry if I made you uncomfortable…” I quietly got up and started walking towards the exit door when someone called out to me from behind in a low voice, “Hey, listen…” It was her. She asked, “Can I join you if you’re leaving? I’m feeling uncomfortable here.” I paused for a moment and replied, “Sure.” We then went out onto the street together. As it was already late, I decided it would be better to go home. I also offered to drop the beautiful lady off at her place. She declined the offer, saying, “No, it’s okay, I will manage by myself.” Since it was midnight, I chose to wait there until some transport became available to take her to her destination. We both stood quietly, occasionally exchanging smiles as we scanned the area for transportation. This went on for the next 15 minutes. Afterward, I asked her again, “It’s getting late, and you might struggle to find transportation. I’ll drop you off. Please be comfortable.” After thinking for a while, she agreed to go with me. We got into my car and left the place. After driving a few kilometres, my car suddenly choked, and we were stuck again in one place. Despite trying hard, I couldn’t get it to start again. I apologized, and she replied, “It’s okay, not your fault. I can go by myself; my home is nearby.” She then got out of the car. I asked, “If you don’t mind, can I join you? As I said, I will drop you.” Without thinking much, she said, “Sure.” Maybe she was getting comfortable with me. After spending an hour and a half together without much conversation or even knowing each other’s names, we started walking. After 2 minutes, she spoke in a low voice, “My name is Somya.” I introduced myself, “Bhuvan, nice to meet you.” Then she asked, “Who is Rahul to you?” I replied, “Oh, Rahul is my colleague.” She said, “Okay, he is going to be my husband.” In a split second, I was shocked. To this day, I can’t understand why I felt unlucky upon hearing that. After a while, she laughed and said, “Relax, Bhuvan. He’s not my husband; he’s going to be my bestie’s husband. She invited me to his birthday party, but the place was so boring and packed that I felt uncomfortable. Did you really think I was going to be his wife?” I remained silent in that moment. She continued laughing, looking like a little girl while laughing. The moment when I was silently wishing for time to pass slowly, she suddenly asked me, “You’ve told me a lot about yourself.” I replied, “You haven’t told me much either.” She countered, “What do you want to know?” I replied, “Anything that could make you more interesting.” “Well, I’m currently preparing for civil services and recently cleared the mains in my first attempt.” While telling me this, she was so excited, and I was amazed to see her reaction, so I congratulated her with a slight smile. Curious, she asked, “What do you do?” With a slight smile, I replied, “I’m an armed officer.” Her expression revealed shock at this revelation. After a couple of seconds, she said, “Jai Hind, sir. Nice to meet you.” It was nearly 1:45 AM by then, halfway through our journey, and until that moment, we had been enjoying each other’s company. As we were comfortable with each other, I cracked a joke that made her laugh again. I love how she is enjoying the moment, which makes me feel like I’m falling for her, but at the same time, I’m unsure about this unexpected feeling. This was the first time someone asked me so many questions, and I found myself answering without getting irritated. As we walked, the silence between us was comfortable, as if we had known each other for years. The night air was filled with the sweet scent of blooming flowers, and the stars shone bright above us. I couldn’t help but steal glances at Somya, her eyes sparkling with excitement as she talked about her dreams and aspirations. In half an hour, we reached Somya’s house. It was almost 2:00 AM, and time had passed quickly as we arrived at her place—a cosy apartment in a quiet neighbourhood. By then, we both felt comfortable and safe with each other, which created a bond between us. She invited me for coffee on that charming night, and after some thought, I agreed. Inside, Somya said, “Please, make yourself comfortable, have a seat.” I replied, “Sure.” Then she said, “Hold on for a moment, I’ll bring coffee for you.” Meanwhile, I admired her house and waited. After 10 minutes, she returned with hot coffee mugs, and we sat on the couch, sipping that fantastic coffee and laughing like old friends. I felt a deep connection with her, as if our souls had connected in a way I couldn’t explain. As the night progressed, we shared stories, dreams, and fears. I told her about my days in the armed forces—the thrill of adventure and the sense of purpose. She listened with wide eyes, filled with admiration. In turn, she shared her passion for civil services, her desire to make a difference in people’s lives. I was struck by her compassion, empathy, and kindness. The night slipped away, and the first light of dawn crept into the sky. We sat in comfortable silence, and I couldn’t understand why time passed so quickly, but I cherished every moment of that night and morning, watching the sunrise over the city. In that moment, I knew I had found someone special—someone who understood me, someone who made my heart sing. Eventually, the time came for us to part ways after that beautiful, memorable 10 hours. As we said goodbye, I felt blessed when Somya came out to drop me off. She smiled and said, “I’m glad we met, Bhuvan. You’re an amazing person.” I smiled back, my heart full of joy. “The feeling is mutual, Somya. You’re incredible.” As I took a step towards the street and then back towards my car, we watched each other for a while. Suddenly, I asked, “Somya, if you don’t mind, could we exchange numbers? So that if we need to communicate in the future, we can?” She replied in a slightly rude way, “I think there’s no need.” I felt a little hurt, but I was helpless and said, “Okay, no issue.” After a pause, I said, “Nice to meet you, Miss Somya,” and walked back to my car. But she laughed and said, “Soldier, I was just kidding! Wait, we can exchange numbers. Now, smile, soldier.” She then gave me her number. Saying goodbye again, I walked back to my car, feeling as if I were walking on air like the previous night. I couldn’t wait to see her again, to explore this newfound connection, and to see where life would take us. Little did I know that this chance encounter would lead to a lifetime of love, laughter, and adventure. But in that moment, all I knew was that I had found a true friend, a kindred spirit, and a heart that beat in harmony with mine. As I drove away, I couldn’t help but smile. I felt a sense of joy and excitement that I hadn’t felt in a long time. I couldn’t wait to see Somya again, to explore this newfound connection, and to see where life would take us. I sent her a text as soon as I reached home: "Good morning, Miss Dangerous! Had an amazing time last night. Can't wait to see you again." She replied almost immediately, "Good morning, soldier! But what is this 'Miss Dangerous,' do I look like a devil?" and she laughed. I replied, "Last night, during our first conversation, I felt like you were dangerous and it made me a bit afraid. So, I thought you wouldn't mind." She replied, "Don't worry, soldier! I don't mind at all. I actually love this name, and it's amazing that even a heroic soldier can be afraid of someone like me." She continued, "I had a great time too. Let's plan something soon." I replied, "Ok." We texted each other for the rest of the day, getting to know each other better. I learned about her love for books, her passion for playing guitar, and her dreams of traveling the world. She learned about my love for adventure, my passion for music, and my dreams of becoming an IAS officer. After an hour of texting each other, I realized that the time had come to ghost her for the next 8 to 9 months due to my new posting. This was the first time I felt like a small kid unwilling to go to school, as if my parents were sending me forcefully. But this was not school; this was my dream job, which compelled me to control my unexpected emotions." "As I hesitated, my fingers hovering over the keyboard, I knew I had to bid her farewell for now. Little did I know, this was just the beginning of our epic tale. With a heavy heart, I typed my final message: 'Somya, I have to go away for a while. Duty calls. But promise me, you'll wait for me?' I hit send, and my screen went dark. The silence was deafening. I waited, my heart pounding in anticipation. Just as I thought all hope was lost, her reply flashed on my screen: 'I'll wait, soldier. But don't take too long. The world is full of dangers, and I don't know if I can handle them alone.' My heart skipped a beat. What did she mean? Was she in danger? And then, everything went black. My phone died, and I was left with only my thoughts to keep me company. I wondered, what lay ahead? Would I be able to return to her? What secrets was she hiding? The fate of our love story remained suspended, like a pendulum swinging between hope and despair. And I was left with only one question: what's next? “Some first meetings are just the start of untold stories, much like fairy tales."
