Metztli could see through the three-inch gap, standing in his cowboy hat and boots, Dakota. Behind him, holding herself so that she actually looked smaller and hidden, was Hailey.
“Dakota,” Metztli’s voice came out hoarse, most likely from surprise.
“What? Weren’t expecting to see my pretty face,” Dakota beamed. Metztli let out a small chuckle as he closed the door to unlock it and then swung the door open wide.
“It’s good to see you,” Metztli said as the two reached out to shake each other’s hand, then pulled each other into a hearty hug with enough back slaps to make any man proud.
“Same, Metz. Same,” Dakota smiled.
