“What is that?” Ratatoskr reached into his mouth and pulled out a large green leaf. “A leaf?” the boy asked puzzled by this gesture. “What good is a leaf to me?” “A leaf from the tree, yes. It is not much, but it will sustain you. The taste will be bitter in your mouth but allow the leaf sit in your mouth for a moment. From its veins water will spring forth and quench your thirst. When the water has ceased, consume the leaf. It will replenish your body.” Hakon did just as the red squirrel had commanded. He placed the leaf in his mouth and bit down lightly. A flood of water filled his mouth and he drank it happily. Once the water had all but subsided he chewed the leaf with a grimace and swallowed. “How do you feel?” “Better…” the boy replied meekly.
