The car ride was surprisingly quiet. In the backseat, Ariel sat right between Ethan and me. Her little legs swung happily while she asked one question after another.
“Mummy, where are we going?”
“To work, baby,” I responded.
“Will there be cartoons there?” she asked.
I smiled despite the knot in my stomach. “I don’t think so.”
She gasped dramatically. “Then I don’t like it already.”
Ethan chuckled beside me. “You haven’t even seen it yet.”
Ariel crossed her arms, pretending to think about it before speaking again. “Will there be snacks?”
That made me laugh. “Yes, there will be snacks.”
“Okay,” she said seriously. “Then I like it.”
