Aurora was busy packing her bags and preparing for her move to New York. Her family was helping her out, trying to make the transition as smooth as possible.
"Mom, I'm going to need to find a place to stay in New York," Aurora said, looking at her mother with a concerned expression.
"Don't worry, sweetie," her mother replied. "You can stay with your cousin Rachel for a few days until you find your own place. She's a chef in the city and has a cozy apartment."
Aurora's face lit up with a smile. "That's perfect! I love Rachel's cooking. I'm sure her apartment will be lovely too."
As Aurora was packing, she received a call from Maya. "Hey, girl! I'm so excited for you. When are you leaving for New York?"
Aurora smiled, chatting with Maya about her plans. "I'm leaving next week. I'll be staying with Rachel until I find my own place."
After finishing her call with Maya, Aurora decided to run some errands. As she was walking down the street, she bumped into James.
"Hey, Rory," James said, looking at her with a mix of surprise and longing. "I heard you're moving to New York."
Aurora felt a pang of awkwardness, but she tried to stay calm. "Yeah, I got a job offer there. I'm starting soon."
James took a step closer to her. "Rory, I'm so sorry for what happened between us. I was wrong, and I regret my actions. Can you ever forgive me?"
Aurora looked at him warily. "James, I appreciate the apology, but I'm not sure I can just forgive and forget. You hurt me deeply."
James nodded, looking remorseful. "I know, and I'm truly sorry. I realize now that I wasn't treating you with the respect you deserved. You deserved better from me."
Aurora's expression turned firm. "James, I've moved on and I'm excited about this new chapter of my life."
James looked at her longingly. "I understand, really, but—"
"James, bye," Aurora said, cutting him off and turning to walk away. She didn't look back, leaving James standing alone on the street.
Aurora walked away from James, feeling a sense of relief wash over her. She was glad she had stood her ground and asserted her boundaries. As she continued with her errands, she couldn't help but feel excited about her new life in New York.
This was the first time she would be moving to a new city and staying away from her family for an extended period.
"What if I get homesick?" she thought to herself. "What if I struggle to adjust to the new environment?" Despite her doubts, she was determined to make the most of this opportunity.
The days passed quickly, and before she knew it, the time had come for Aurora to leave for New York. She said goodbye to her Parents and friends, feeling a mix of emotions as she embarked on this new chapter in her life.
Aurora's brother Dorian and sister, Sophie, dropped her off at the airport. They hugged her tightly, wishing her all the best on her new adventure.
"Take care of yourself, sis," her brother said.
"We'll miss you."
"I'll be fine," Aurora replied, smiling. "I'll call you guys regularly to keep you updated."
After the goodbye, Aurora went through the airport procedures, feeling a sense of excitement and nervousness.
After all the process, she was now seated in her flight to New York. I'm really doing this. I'm starting a new life in a new city."
The flight attendant gave all the necessary instructions. The flight took off.
New York, here I come........
When she arrived in New York, Aurora was greeted by her cousin Rachel, who was waiting for her at the airport. Rachel gave her a warm hug and helped her with her bags.
"Welcome to New York, cuz!" Rachel exclaimed.
"I'm so excited to have you here."
Aurora smiled, feeling grateful for her cousin's support. "Thanks, Rach. I'm excited to be here too."
As they drove to Rachel's apartment, Aurora took in the sights and sounds of the city. She was eager to explore her new home and start her new job.
When they arrived at Rachel's apartment, the two of them spent the evening catching up and chatting about Aurora's new job.
"I'm so proud of you, cuz," Rachel said, smiling. "You're going to do great things in New York."
Aurora smiled back, feeling grateful for her cousin's support. "Thanks, Rach. I'm really excited. And I have an orientation at my workplace tomorrow."
Rachel's face lit up. "Oh, great! I can help you get there. I can drop you off on my way to the restaurant."
Aurora shook her head. "No, no, it's okay. I can take a cab or the subway."
But Rachel insisted. "It's no trouble at all. I know the area pretty well. I can swing by and drop you off."
Aurora hesitated for a moment before nodding. "Okay, thanks Rach. That would be a huge help."
The two of them chatted for hours, discussing everything from Aurora's job to her plans for exploring the city and finding a new apartment. As the night wore on, they finally said their goodnights and headed to bed, ready to face the next day.
Aurora woke up at 7:00 AM thanks to her alarm. Otherwise she would have slept till noon. She was so tired after the flight. And when she woke up, she was damn hungry too.
She got out of bed and headed to the kitchen, where Rachel was already cooking up a storm. "Hey, Rach, Good morning" Aurora said, her stomach growling.
Rachel smiled and handed her a plate of fluffy scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, and toasted whole-grain bread. "Good morning, cuz! I made you some breakfast. Eat up, you've got a big day ahead of you."
Aurora dug in, savoring the delicious flavors. "Mmm, this is so good! Thanks, Rach."
After breakfast, Aurora headed to her room to get ready. She picked out a professional outfit - a white fitted poplin shirt with a high waist tailored grey trouser to match with a grey waldorf ladies waistcoat and a pair of high black heels. She did her hair in a sleek, low bun, and applied a light layer of makeup.
“Are you ready Rory” Rachel asked from outside
“Yes yes coming.” Aurora said
Aurora grabbed her bag, and within 10 minutes, they were both in Rachel's car proceeding to Nova Tech.
"Okay, cuz, we're here," Rachel said, smiling.
Aurora nodded, grabbing her bag. "I'll just take an Uber back home after the orientation. Thanks again for driving me, Rach. I really appreciate it."
As Aurora got out of the car, Rachel called out,
"Hey, Good luck, and don't forget to breathe!"
“Thanks Rach, I’ll talk to you later.” Aurora said as she watched as Rachel drove off, then took a deep breath and walked into the office building. She was greeted by a friendly receptionist who smiled and said, "Hi, welcome. Can I help you with something?"
"Hi," Aurora replied. "I'm here for an orientation."
"Sure! May I know your name please?" The receptionist asked.
"Aurora Larkin."
The receptionist nodded and checked her list. "Great, let me show you to the conference room. Take the second elevator. The orientation is on the 6th floor. There, Mike will guide you."
"Okay. Thank you." Aurora smiled at her.
"Good luck!" She smiled.
Aurora nodded and proceeded towards the elevator. As the elevator was going up, she was getting nervous. What if I don't give my good impression? What if they don't like me?
God!! Please help me. Aurora muttered to herself.
She reached the 6th floor. As expected there were several people for the orientation. She looked around the room and spotted a man who looked like the employee there.
"Hi, I'm Aurora, I'm here for the orientation." she said, extending her hand
"Good morning, Aurora. I'm Mike. I'll be taking care of your orientation today. Please, follow me," Mike said with a smile.
Aurora followed Mike into the conference room, where several people were seated around a large table. Mike introduced her to the team, including Mrs. Kim, the VP of the Data Analyst department.
"Welcome, Aurora," Mrs. Kim said. "We're excited to have you on board. Over the next hour, we'll be going over the company's policies, your role, and what to expect in your position."
Mike handed Aurora a folder filled with information. "Let's get started," he said. "We'll cover everything from office procedures to your job responsibilities."
As the orientation progressed, Aurora learned about her role as a data analyst, her start date, and what would be expected of her. She was told she would be working closely with the team to analyze data and provide insights to help drive business decisions.
Mrs. Kim had a dry sense of humor that caught people off guard. "I know some of you may be thinking, 'Oh no, Mrs. Kim is going to ride us hard.' But let me tell you, I just want what's best for this company. And that means being on time, meeting deadlines, and producing top-notch work." Mrs Kim said
The team members exchanged subtle glances, their faces neutral.
Mrs. Kim was a woman in her late 40s, with a fit and poised demeanor that commanded respect. She stood at about 5'6" with a trim figure, her dark hair styled in a sleek bob that framed her heart-shaped face. She wore a tailored suit that accentuated her professional presence.
As the orientation continued, Mrs. Kim outlined the company's goals and expectations. "I expect great things from all of you," she said. "We are the face of the company" The VP set herself on top of a chair and shouted. "We promote the goods. Without us, Nova Tech is nothing"
"We are-" She raised her arms up "the data analyst department!"
She gave out a war cry and everyone around her clapped warily, already exhausted with this utter nonsense.
Aurora smiled, feeling a mix of excitement and intimidation. She was eager to prove herself and meet Mrs. Kim's expectations.
"You're expected to start as soon as possible," Mrs. Kim said. "We'll be providing you with all the necessary training and support to ensure your success in this role."
With the orientation complete, Aurora felt a sense of excitement and anticipation as she left the conference room. She was eager to start her new role and meet her colleagues.
