Chapter 18 ELLIOT Sitting in the passenger seat of my own car, while sober, was a first. “When’d you get back?” Tommy asked, his words clipped and short. He was still angry at me and he had every right to be. “About an hour before you got there,” I said. I’d run all day and night, and then rested in some random forest almost a state away. I hadn’t stopped to eat, barely drinking enough water to stave off dehydration. But I was back, and I had news. Though considering Bella’s health, it was probably not the time to reveal all. “And you’re... okay?” Tommy asked. A lump stuck in my throat. Even after what I’d done to him, he was still worried about me. “Yeah. You?” He nodded. “All good.” I cleared my throat and prepared my apology. “I’m sorry I hurt you. No excuses. It was wrong.”
